Would rather be bossing the Championship or being bossed in the Prem?

An interesting debate often reappears on 606, it was a Blackburn fan who brought it up this weekend. 'Would you rather be playing great football in the Championship or playing terrible football and be fighting for survival in the Prem?'.

The point he made was that with Big Sam they would still be in the Prem but he wouldn't be going to watch the, because of the quality of football on show.

I'm not saying where would you prefer Everton to be, but which do you think is the better option?

Bossing the Championship. I'd much rather win games than watching disappointing performances throughout the whole season in the prem.

I remember talking to a bolton fan when they had Megson about this. His opinion was that the sole reason to enjoy the top flight was to watch your guys match against the best in the country and since megson used to just surrender against the big boys and only turn up against the minnows, he was denied even that and so would rather watch championship football as at least there you got to win and attack a bit.

I rather suspected he would change his opinion if they did get relegated, though. It would be interesting to talk to him again, now. I've yet to see a single club gain more supporters after a relegation and certainly when you talk to fans whos clubs have gone down, they all hate it.

Would Saints fans prefer dominating teams like they were last season or being able to buy players like Gaston Ramirez?

Fans can say what they like, but the PL is where it's at. All clubs strive to be part of it & not one of the present incumbents would swap their place for a few more wins in the Championship. It's defeatist for a decent sized club to accept that it's 'level' is the Championship & none of them do, so it's a moot point.

Thought about this yesterday. I think I'd prefer to watch attractive football, but the entire purpose of being competitive in the Championship is to win promotion. So would I be unhappy if my club was promoted?

I'd probably support either way.

Not sure. When you are playing in the PL you have a better team than in the Championship and more money to spend, so your chances might be better to win a cup. On the other hand it's great to win some matches, cause football is about winning. It's an interesting situation for smaller clubs like Blackburn, West Brom or Bolton. Personally I'd rather be in the Premier League.

As someone who keeps more than a close eye on the Championship, (albeit the wrong end for the last few years), the biggest thing about that league is that pretty much any club can have a realistic chance of it being "their" season, and getting to the playoffs. It is mega competitive, but obviously of lower quality.

I think it depends on which Prem club you follow, on the basis that all but about 8 could never expect to see their club relegated into the Championship, whereas for the rest, it is a recent place of residence for them. So, I would rather Eberton had a poor season in the Prem, rather than bossing the Championship, but if Bristol City ever got up, then the one season and the cash it made would be ace.

If Palace were competing in the Premier League every week rather than just turning up and getting clanked then I would be OK with the Prem, better than winning every week in The Championship.

If we hadn't stuck around in the Prem in the Walter Smith days, we wouldn't be in the top four in the Premier League playing boss footy right now.

You want to be a Premier League side every day of the week. Anything else is very defeatist and based on short term thinking.

Is right that mate.
