Yakubu signs for the Blues
After days of waiting on a work permit, Yakubu finally put pen to paper on a five year contract today.
A club record fee of £11.25m has been paid to Middlesbrough for the Nigerian front man. Due to the player not having played 75% of his country’s recent international matches, the completion of the work permit formalities was delayed. However, the problems were solved today and Yakubu has linked up with the Everton squad.
The striker said, "I am happy to be here. It is a great feeling to come over and meet a lot of good players and see the spirit that they have. I have always said that I want to play for a club that plays in Europe and I think they have the ambition to move forward and they want to finish in the first four and the Champions League and Uefa Cup and for me that is my dream.”
He also admitted that he aims to score twenty goals this season. If his promises come true, Everton might just have made their most important signing in recent history.
