Yakubu vs Johnson

Definitely Yakubu. Without Penalties, I think AJ will always struggle to get much more than 12-15 a season, excellent footballer, but not great finisher. While Yakubu is the opposite, maybe not so great a player but an excellent finisher.

Who do you think is the more important player then? Which one would we miss more?

I think definitely AJ at the moment, he gives the team confidence knowing he will run all day long. But if Yakubu starts to get all the goals then maybe the dynamic will change.

I dont agree that he isnt a great finisher, at the moment he probably doesnt have much confidence and so far this season he has been the one the team has been relying on to keep the ball up front, most of his goalscoring opportunities have been made out of nothing.

I agree Sim. AJ is the better/more important player to the team. But the Yak will probably get more goals (y)

What you say is perfectly correct Rodders as Aj's goal record over the last 30 odd games is poor, he creates but misses loads himself. At least now, when he's pushed to the corners, he'll have backing to get a cross in or a man available for the ball. I hope, when his fitness levels are up, that the Yak will be able to keep with him for the full 90 mins(y)

Thats exactly my point namdrater, AJ creates goals out of nothing and his workrate is is astounding for a striker, but the amount of decent chances he misses is also a little too high.

A case in point, his last good chance against Bolton when he had the defender breathing down his neck and the keeper to beat, a great finisher would have comfortabley found a spot that the keeper wouldnt get too, but AJ has a habit of kicking it right at the keeper. His goals generally come through his amazing perserverance. I'm not running AJ down, far from it.

I know what you're getting at here but I still like the fact that it's Yakubu & Johnson vs. Yakubu vs. Johnson.

I think they'll compliment each other greatly.

Amazing. There are people here having a crack at AJ when he has had to run tirelessly last season (alone mainly) to keep us in contention. Yak will get a scrappy goal every 2-3 games, but once AJ gets used to being half of a partnership again then the floodgates will open. He is one of the most natural goal finishers AND goal creators around. His time with palace in the Prem proves that. As TX says, they will both compliment each other. I don't believe you can play one off against the other as they are both completely different types of players. You could compare AJ to Owen, or Yak to Heskey (for example) but not against each other. It is a case of Brains and Brawn. This could be a match made in Heaven. Two time tested and proven goal scorers.

The futures bright, the futures toffee.

Hang on Gaz, people are asked to compared these players, you'd be astonished if we all agreed now wouldn't you. No one has ever, or could ever doubt AJ's tireless and selfless running for the team, it makes our forward line tick. That said I do not believe he is an out and out scorer, Yakubu is and as a goal poacher will expect AJ to be his hod carrier.

There is nothing I can see in my comments about AJ that is derogatory to the player who would still be in the first three names on my team sheet!

PS The future is indeed bright and blue(y)
