Yakubu wants a win over Man Utd on his home debut.

The Nigerian hitman has a decent record against the Barclays Premier League champions, having twice scored in wins over United in the past.

Having already endeared himself to Evertonians with a debut goal away at Bolton, he can think of no better way of marking his first appearance for the Blues at Goodison than scoring in an Everton victory.

Yakubu scored for Middlesbrough when they hammered United 4-1 in 2005, and also notched for Portsmouth when they beat Alex Ferguson's side 2-0 a year earlier.

In an exclusive interview with evertonTV, Yakubu said: "I have scored against them before, they are a quality team with lots of quality players. I like to play in games like that.

"It's a big game for us and one we don't want to lose. I hope we get a result."

Appearing in front of the Everton faithful will be a big moment for the record signing.

"It will be a good feeling to run out at Goodison," said the Yak. "In the game at Bolton the way the fans treated me was unbelievable and I hope I will get the same reception at home.

"You want to impress them and I am looking forward to the game.

"They beat us at Goodison last season but this time I hope it can be different. We have learnt a lot from what happened."

Yakubu confirmed he was fully fit ahead of the game, after sitting out Nigeria's win over Lesotho last weekend.

"I am fine," he said. "I just didn't want to take any risks. I spoke to the (Nigeria) manager and said I had a little knock and that it would be best to rest it and he said 'fine.'"

I've got to be honest here, I just about sick and tired of these totally banal press releases coming from the powers that be. Dear Mr Yak, we pay your bloody wages now so of course you should want a win at GP................ffs:angry:

Tbf its not the players fault, those idiots in the press office seem to think that [Poor language removed] of that type is in anyway interesting, especially as they write it themselves, it is crap.

(Rant over)(y)

And I love the fact he's talking like he was there a year ago when they beat us!! Thats the spirit Yak! Vengance for last year!!

It's yet another one of those stories that tells us absolutely nothing! Not the player's fault - he just answered their lame questions.
