Right, IF Donovon is as good as everyone on here makes out he is why has no other club come in for him yet ???
If he had any ambition as a footballer he would have been playing over here or in spain/italy years ago.

There, I said it.

Not going to bother. Please read the other 1,324 pages in the thread for the answer.

We get it, you don't like him. Sad.

Was he not at Bayern munich or somewhere. Anyway the point is he plays well with us- fits in our system, likes the atmosphere, whatever the point is he plays well for us and to have him full time would be massive. Just love the thought of big names players in our side throughout all positions.

He was at Leverkusen I believe.

Some people are late bloomers, Donovan is one of these. He is boss and I'd love him back here.

I dont even think hes a late bloomer as such, I just think hes proven to be a very good player for us.

Why risk spending money else where on a player who may do ok- we know he can play and he knows the team/manager/set up/fans/club/history/Phil Neville

We DO NOT want to be his swansong though.

Sign now and loan back for as long as they are in the playoffs.

This is dragging on way too long ffs from the 1st time he was with us, we are not here to condition him for the MLS or anyone else for that matter, we want him here, fit and ready to play, not coming for 3 months but needs 4 weeks to get fit and the Galaxy get a match ready player back with us having paid for him to hit fitness.

Donavan is what we need right now, he can play on the right, he can play as a striker so we have cover for Jelavic, he is loved by the fans, he fits in the team, Moyes knows him, his name is a great brand, perfect except for having no money.

Again Kay you misunderstand , I don't dislike him at all. He is Americas best player ( I think ) so I underestand your love for him but over here there are many players who are also on his level and an awful lot who are a lot better.... Would I like him at Everton ? sure,, but for the right price and with the right wages. Anything over 4 million and I would rather see us spend the money on a younger player who may cost us a couple of million more but will possibly have a saleable value after 3 years.

Apologies for misunderstanding. I was reacting to the "no ambition/no clubs interested" part, which is a tired argument when it comes to Landon Donovan.

There are other players as good yes...but as everyone has said multiple times over:

1) he is low risk - we KNOW he works here
2) fan favorite
3) can play multiple positions and we've already seen him do that
4) fits in well in the locker room
5) has brand value
6) where are these other players that Everton are interested in that are just as good and cheap? I also don't think there are an "awful lot" of players that are as good as him that offer the same value he does at the price he'd be. Americans tend to be undervalued (see: Michael Bradley). Where is this young player that we can spend a couple million more on and would be good? Hoillett? We see where that worked out. Johnson - no way will he be affordable. Holtby - no interest. Drenthe - we saw how that worked out. Seriously - who is out there for you?
7) I'd like to win something sooner rather than later rather than depending on a young player working out and assuming there would be resale value. That is a risk, and we already have several other young players for that.

Plus the surmise is that he WON'T be expensive. His wages are peanuts in comparison to other players, the main question is the transfer fee, which all signs are pointing towards won't be expensive either, and his sponsors helping foot the bill.

So, win-win.

I like Reidy's idea of signing now and loaning back. Totally forgot that was an option.

Argh.

I hate this thread, because every time I see there's been a new post I get all excited in case there's been any developments :(

This is a stupid argument. You are both correct, and are not contradicting each other necessarily. Of course, a younger player, who can contribute at LD's level now, at a position of need, and at a purchase price equal to what Galaxy/MLS would command would be a better option. But such player probably doesn't exist. At the same time, we should not overpay for him, or any other player.
