The programme used to list all the day's matches in alphabetical order for example A - Arsenal v Villa B -Derby v Blackpool etc and at half time they used to put up the scores next to each letter......
They also sold the 'Half-Time Echo' near the end of the match on a Saturday, walking through the crowd.

I did not know that! I remember the pink Football Echo which came out about 6pm on a Saturday night
There were some updated scores in the 'Stop Press' , a column at the side of the front page. They would actually stop the printing presses to add these updates and that is were the word 'Stop Press' comes from. The original 'Sky Breaking News', eh!

I remember the Stop Press - we even managed to get my Boys Brigade score in there once!

Our history is boss. Never let anyone tell you otherwise. When they try to belittle us, just think of all of this. No other club side in the England has hosted a World Cup semi.

It was ace. Have vague memory of not seeing Pele because it was either the game he was kicked off park or the next game when perhaps not fit to play. Remember the QF well though, crowd was really backing N Korea with Portugal in red. Nk were amazing for 15 minutes then Portugal pulled one back and Eusebio just bossed the game. What a player!

I can't believe I was there watching Pele, Eusebio, Garrincha, Bene, Tostao and so many others. Saw 4 great games including Brazil v Hungary, one of the best games seen at Goodison and all for just over £3.00.

I as there as well for all those games, a great memory.

Everton - the only Club to host TWO World Cup Semi Finals

Then we had the coming of Alan Ball. 'E aye adio, we've got the Ball'. What a signing and what a Goodison legend!

I remember the Portuguese centre-half,Torres,one big dirty player, also the crowd giving their goalkeeper terrible stick in the quarter finals.Eusabio was magic.

When I said they 'bent the same way', they weren't bowed, they curved alongside each other. It was amazing how he ran but understandable how he swerved the ball the way he did.
I remember some writer talking about Garrincha's drinbbling skills. he finished off saying something along the lines of 'let's see Ronaldo do that with one leg shorter than the other and curvature of the spine.

Saw all the early games at GP then went on holiday to Austria and watched the final, four of us with a dozen Germans, on the only TV in the little village we were in(I'll tell that story when I've more time...sorry Bluesnapper, I'm off to work !) One memory at GP was the goal scored by, I think it was Bene, of Hungary? Dribbled along the edge of the box and slotted on the run. Also Pele being kicked all over...at one point he went to ground after a kick, got up immediately and the defender simply kicked him again. Korea -Portugal, anyone who was actually there will never forget it. Eusebio scoring, picking up the ball out of the net, and running back to place it on the centre spot ready for kick off! I was 25, never forget it.

Portugal went into the quarter final match against North Korea as strong favourites, having won their three Group matches. It was a lovely, hot sunny afternoon and nearly 52,000 settled to watch Eusebio, 'the Black Pearl', take Korea apart. As the Korean team was read out, I remember someone in the crowd say "it sounds like pans falling out of a cupboard" - Amazingly, North Korea kicking into the Gwladys Street went 3-0 up inside thirty minutes through Pak Seung-Zin, Lee Dong-Woon and Yang Seung-Kook.
