Summer transfer window 2023

We need to replace DCL. You cannot rely on his fitness. I have no problem keeping Dom but to me he is either a squad option going forward pr we should sell if there is a good offer.

We need good 3 strikers at the club. Dom can absolutely be one of them but can't be the main no.9 going forward

If he stays then he is the best striker here, and the one with the most resale value so I really don't see him as a squad option - we don't have the money to sign someone obviously better (unless our scouting system has gone through a massive upgrade by stealth).

Personally I think that position is the one where a loan signing makes the most sense, someone from one of the CL clubs who could do a similar thing as Rom did for us.

Won't our summer spending depend upon financial sanctions? Now that we have stayed up, don't half the clubs in England intend to sue us?

I really haven't kept up with this side of things.

These issues have probably been discussed elsewhere.
I doubt anything is concluded before this window but we need to be wary of the possibility of a transfer embargo for January and / or next summer and make sure the squad is fully covered for potentially the next 18 months.

I briefly mentioned him last night. What's the mood for going back in for him. Expect it would be divisive given his last minute disappearing act but he'd argue he was signing to play for Lampard and then he got sacked so had a right to reconsider his decision.

Not been great at Spurs but he's 26 and had a good scoring season in championship and scored 10 in 23 games in La Liga and Villareal will be happy to sell him.
No, absolutely no way back with Danjuma. Even ignoring the loan fiasco he is a well known absolute sort. There’s a reason Villarreal are desperate to get rid even though on the pitch he’s done well for them. He’s a bad dude.

Your main striker cannot be someone with such a worrying injury record, or you will keep struggling to score goals and end up in trouble. It was absolutely mad not to sign forwards last summer, and especially in January. It would be barely believable if we did it again.

Hopefully get the ownership sorted soon and then get straight into the transfers. First port of call should be shifting out the remaining deadwood, unless some targets are time sensitive. I think we'll have a bit better financial situation this summer and Dyche will be able to work with Thelwell looking for the players he needs. Easy to be optimistic at this point but I believe that Dyche knows exactly what we need and will work to improve this squad massively going into next season.

Dyche talked about changing the way that we've been doing things.

We've been known for picking up players from relegated teams, along with Man Utd cast offs, older players looking for a last big contract and one year flash in the pans from abroad. More recently we've had a spell of buying "marque" signings whether or not they where what was required.

Our poor league finishes in the last two years could work in our favour in that established players won't want to come so will force us to target younger (sub 23 year old) players; who have something to prove / have some potential to improve (and potential future sell on value).

We need a big change in outlook, a clear and consistent approach to player acquisition - time for a reset and give us a team fit for BMD

The independent enquiry results won't be finalised until October.
So summer spending won't come into it.

Then there would probably be an appeal , won't be any time soon.

I hope the structure that Thelwell has been working on will bear some fruit.

It's a global market and we have to find players before spending £35m on them.

A limited budget has to be stretched as far as possible.

We have to focus on the here and now, but also on creating profit from player-trading down the line.

This is how I'd personally look at the squad next season. 4-5 really good, sensible signings.

Again though - what do you do when he is fit? Most strikers need game-time, especially at this level and whilst DCL is fit he will play.

With regards to January, I would urge everyone to actually look at what happened there. We didn't spend any money and we improved. None of the players we were linked with did anything to suggest they would have been better for us, and signing them or any other random could have had properly negative effects (would Simms' equalizer vs Chelsea have happened? Would Doucs have been played in the position he was which ultimately helped save us?). A big part of our financial mess is because of panic buys in January, and not doing it again should be seen as a positive.

If we are going to sign players in the financial mess we are in, they have to be upgrades on what we have at the club. Simms and Cannon are at the level of being OK forwards in the Championship now, and both can improve to be OK in the PL with time.

Whoever we bring in for money has to be a way above that level at a minimum - which basically means scouting and discovering someone before anyone else in the league or Europe does or taking a punt at someone like (edit) Langstaff, because we've got no money. It is possible, as Brighton have showed, but it will require us to be a lot better run than we are now.
