Pre-Season

U21s played Glenavon (mid table Irish league) a few years back and bossed them 3-0. Even the physical challenges were men against boys never mind the technical element of the contest. I got to meet Joe Royle though.

Kendall used to bring the Firsts over but largely as much for the socialising as the togger.
Glenavon bossed the kids 3-0? Or the other way around?

Football is as much about business as it is about the game itself these days. It’s sad it’s that way, but it is. It’s not like we’d go Ireland and sell out a relatively big stadium either.

Much more about getting actual warm up games suited to get us ready for the season. America is a huge market and great for brand development but ultimately means nothing if you go into the season like turd.

I would like Coleman’s testimonial to be against Sligo. With whatever Charity is chosen or the money to go to Sligo itself.

Just not as a preseason game, post season would be ideal.

With regards to Kendall I’m only 31 so basically any glory years came just before I was old enough to understand the depression that is Everton football club!

The kids bossed Glenavon, Anthony Evans being the standout. Think it was Delial Brewster with the other goal.

Agree with the Sligo sentiment. I don’t believe the link to both Seamus and Dixie is as widely known as it should be and a friendly would right that.

Anthony Evans. That’s a recognisable name.

I remember going to Bohemians for a friendly, was mid season. Anichebe and Vaughan both played.

Boring 0-0 lol

Hadnt a clue about any link with Dixie Dean tbh.

Insulting? EH? Alright pal. Offence is there to be taken because it wasn't an offensive post AT ALL.

It would be a friendly against a team against conference level at best, every season. Absolutely pointless other than letting some supporters get a chance to see them, even though its a short hop across the water in normal season anyway. It doesn't really do anything for the brand, it doesn't do anything for the senior players when they could play better opposition. It is what it is. YOu can say its ridiculous but that's the reality.

Whether a friendly could be played against a decent team over there, that's a completely different question and wouldn't be a bad idea at all.
UCD nearly put us out of the ECWC - they are bottom of the league at the moment. Rovers are top. A decent team?

Mate, how long ago was that exactly? Our seniors should absolutely batter them. We would have all of the ball, the players wouldn't run anywhere near as much as they should do (and VERY MUCH so with Dyche in charge).

By decent team, I meant playing a top side over there, your Celtic's or something like that.

I respect you're Irish, and a Sligo fan as well, so your hope is we come over and play Sligo, I get it. However it does nothing for Everton as a pre-season game in the build up for the premier league, which should be the number 1 priority. That's just the reality, don't take offence to it.

Would never be against them doing something post-season for Coleman. Whether that be at Goodison or in Ireland.

Andy, I am sorry if you are too young to remember us winning the European Cup Winners Cup in 1985. But UCD nearly put us out with a nil all in Dublin and then hitting the woodwork in Goodison.

No I am a Shamrock Rovers fan...the home of Peter Farrell and Tommy Eglinton...if you know your history

Rovers are a decent team at that level yes. They would be a mid table league 2 side in England at best.
Mate we gave Juve a hell of a game in 2010. I was there. A brilliant goal from Del Piero finished us but the Italians welcomed us with molto respectii! One of my greatest experiences following Rovers.

If rovers were an English league side where would you think there level is
Completely hypothetical question. However, if you want my opinion we would beat most Championship sides, and given the way Everton have played this season probably wouldn't be far off in terms of quality.

As for what Rovers and other LOI sides provide in terms of quality of football for a fraction of the disgusting waste of money seen in the EPL....Well.

Google some LOI footage and compare it with the rubbish we have been served at GP.

I will always be an Evertonian but we need serious restructuring after the past few decades of pain.

Ah stop.
Look at how irish sides do in Europe.
Some of Rovers better players didn't stand out in league 1 and 2 in England .
If Rovers were in the English championship they would finish the season on about 10 points.
