From my recollection, wasn't the Irdning game a last minute thing and something that Irdning requested themselves? we obliged as we'd used some of their training facilities.

Yeah, playing them was fine, putting a live stream of it and advertising it was comically bad. I appreciate they couldnt have anticipated 22-0, but streaming it was a terrible idea.

I get not sending the first team over, but we used to send "An Everton XI" across. No reason the u21's couldnt go over annually.
The effort we have put into supporting this Club for decades deserves something better than this ridiculous and insulting post

Nice sensible preseason. Can never see the point of flying players half way around the world just to get match fit.

Yes. Loads of running, proper matches against sensible opposition. Bit of time away for bonding and blindfold Jenga or whatever Dyche will have them doing.

Skint club that’s narrowly avoided relegation twice shouldn’t be having delusions of grandeur and flying somewhere to “increase commercial links”, or going somewhere daft to placate a weird sponsor and play some local amateurs. There are blues scattered all over the world, and always good that some get the chance to watch a game on a US tour etc. But this is a summer of rehab, strengthening, properly drilling a formation/style, striker buying and most importantly penny pinching.

Or they fly to the US or Far East and get jet lag plus spend plenty of time out on the lash.

Insulting? EH? Alright pal. Offence is there to be taken because it wasn't an offensive post AT ALL.

It would be a friendly against a team against conference level at best, every season. Absolutely pointless other than letting some supporters get a chance to see them, even though its a short hop across the water in normal season anyway. It doesn't really do anything for the brand, it doesn't do anything for the senior players when they could play better opposition. It is what it is. YOu can say its ridiculous but that's the reality.

Whether a friendly could be played against a decent team over there, that's a completely different question and wouldn't be a bad idea at all.

u21s always have their pre-season games against mens teams, usually non-league

Correct, will have some seniors in it as well by t he sounds of it, but actually a friendly against a league two team for the U23's is a fantastic warm up, same with the forest green game too.

U23's being int he papa John's is great for their development.

U21s played Glenavon (mid table Irish league) a few years back and bossed them 3-0. Even the physical challenges were men against boys never mind the technical element of the contest. I got to meet Joe Royle though.

Kendall used to bring the Firsts over but largely as much for the socialising as the togger.
