Running

I was out running at the ungodly hour of 7:50 today , -2 deg C and cold mist over the river and fields. Two of us did 7 miles on the road before a large group went out on a 10 miles loop down a country road , across a footbridge over the River Spey and back up the Speyside Way trail which was hard and frosted so a bit tough going . Being near the back meant I enjoyed a good chat with two young ladies I’d never seen before as we were all going at the same pace. I threw in an extra road mile at the end despite achy legs , taking me up to 18 miles total so a nice marker as I build up to my marathon 9 weeks today.

Sounds great

Solo marathon training is doing my head in

Also picked up an injury so haven’t ran for a week

Yep it was , I changed my routines to fit it in as I do my mid-week runs in daylight on my own, so it was nice to have company . The past few years I’ve been listening to podcasts for most of my solo run , it helps.

I didn’t run last week due to illness, I chalked it off as a recovery week and adjusted my plans. Beware of trying to rush things back or trying to make up for lost time, stick to your original plan you’ll soon be back on track.

Road to recovery:

Did an easy 5k last night - felt a bit sore but not horrendous
Will attempt a 10k Thursday and a 20k on Saturday all being well and see how it reacts

Then hopefully I’ll be able to get back to the marathon programme next week

Managed to get 16m done yesterday, with a parkrun sandwiched in between. A bit of pain but definitely on the mend, I’ll just lay off the intervals again this week.

Staying in north wales next week so can anyone recommend somewhere to do an 18 miler? I was thinking about offas dyke from bodfari to Prestatyn?

If want to go hardcore, there’s a load around Snowdon ?

A bit too far from where we are staying (Mold way) unfortunately- I can’t leave the mrs without the car

I highly recommend the forest tracks around Moel Famau then - even Moel Famau if you`re feeling brave, the back way is better than the more popular track up to the top.

Park your car in the main car park and then go exploring. You can make it as hard or easy as you want with the inclines / declines.

An 8k and a 7k this week

Just done the 7 this morning l, wasn’t looking forward to it but pleased I got through it with an average pace of 5:22 per km.

Kind of enjoying it again, 4 weeks today since I started again, got a 10k event in April I’m going to train towards to give it some purpose.
