HELLO FROM PORTUGAL

Stayed around there last year. Think the resort was mafia-run though...View attachment 296437
Love it there. Going back to that area for the third year in a row. Prefer Portugal to Spain tbh.

Welcome.
It's a place we've never been to Tim. Been to Armacao De Pera countless times for boat trips (with our many houseguests), vets and a nice little rustic restaurant on the beach not far from the Porches end of the town. We have visitors coming in a few weeks and we're always keen to try somewhere different so will give it a go. Recommend anywhere for eats ? We are just up the road near Alcantarilha. Albufeira we try to avoid. 😎😄
Apologies @woosyni not used to this site yet and got my bearings all wrong. Thought Tim had posted that. (Me 🤡 ).

Not a problem, mate. I'm not great with this forum stuff either. We went with our daughter and grandson which means we had to stick to somewhere that serves burgers/pizza (feel a little ashamed admitting that but needs must) when eating out which, although were lovely, would hardly be recommendations for dining out.

The year before we stayed near Salgados and are going back there again this year. Usually eat at nearby bars/cafés. Cheap and cheerful. Never had a bad meal anywhere tbh though I'm easily pleased after a Super Bock or two. 😆

Thank you for the welcome woodsyni 🙂. We get regular visitors from the UK and, with them being in holiday mode, they like to eat all that fishy stuff - like squid, octopus and mussels 🤮. While we love having visitors, the first thing we do after we drop them at the airport is go to our favourite wee cafe and have burgers, chips and the like. We're not ones for fancy restaurants....or the fancy prices they charge. Unfortunately we don't have grandchildren, so we don't have the joys of entertaining young ones. My Great Niece is coming in September but she's in her early 20s which might well have some different challenges 😁.

Albufiera after 6pm. Never saw a place transform from a normal wee town to party central so quickly. Walked down a normal street with bars, walked back through thumping music and large groups downing shots and dancing. Jeez, I 'm getting old! 😆

😆 Know the feeling well. They're actually cracking down on young ones this year. No bikinis on streets or bare chested young males and stricter monitoring of nightclubs.

Think that's fair enough. It was pretty rowdy and it was early. Must be a nightmare for the locals. Might have had a different opinion 40 years ago but I think they're right to apply some rules or it's a downward spiral.

Hi Tim. We are a bit off the beaten track among the orange groves just outside the town of Silves. We are still only a 15/20 min. drive to the resorts. Our favourite hang out is the seaside district (not really a town) of Gale - fabulous beaches, good restaurants/watering holes. Where do you like to go ?
I’ve been all over Porto Lisbon algarve and pineche all lovely

Went to the Algarve almost 30 years ago, stayed in a lovely place at the top end of ‘The Strip’ in Albufuira….. first time I’d ever tasted Piri Piri chicken and to this day I’ve never tasted it nicer anywhere else, also used to love the fresh bread and fish paste they gave you to eat as a starter in most of the restaurants….. will deffo go back there one day.

Hi Kurt, there's a place we go to at the top of the strip right opposite the International Health Centre (on the roundabout) that does great piri piri chicken. I go mainly for the lamb chops though which they do on the BBQ. Might be the same place. 🙂

To be honest I can’t really remember much of it other than where we stayed was a by a big hotel which had a supermarket on the ground floor, we had one of the apartments in the adjoining grounds which had a lovely pool and tennis courts in the grounds too. Can’t for the life of remember what it was called though

Edit
Just asked the Mrs and she thinks it was called VillaNova

Some lovely Hotels in Albufeira. Not sure I would stay in one near the strip though as it would probably be full of young party types. 🥳

Me and the Mrs stayed at a place at the bottom of the strip last year. Luckliy it was February so not really any party types about and half the bars were closed, so was pretty quiet.

Will be going back in September with my son, but likely to stay near the town rather than the strip (although I will no doubt take him to one of the Celtic bars there one night)

Hi WA. My Niece is coming in September too. She and her friend are staying, fully inclusive, at the NAU Sao Rafael Suites between Albufeira and Gale, but will also stay with us for a few days. September is the best time to come to the Algarve as July/August far too hot and October too wet. Her Hotel is a wee bit out of town but the Ubers here are great and 'cheap as chips', so really good choice for a nice quiet beach and getting around. Been quite a coldish/wet February this year but starting to warm up now. Hope you and your son have a great stay and enjoy the footie bars when you're here 🙂

Hi mate, one of my favourite places is Carvoeiro.
Been there quite a few times over the last few years. Stayed in Ferragudo too one year.

Back again end of April and playing golf at Silves and Gramacho.

Hi Thomasc, all our visitors like a day out in Carvoeiro so have been there quite often over the 7 years we've lived here. Have also been to Ferragudo a few times as one friend in particular likes it there (not my cup of tea to be honest). Our house sits on a hill near Silves with views over a (distant) golf course towards Alcantarilha. The course looks quite hilly and set amongst trees (a bit like Wentworth), so I imagine quite difficult. April a lovely time of year here for golfers. Hope you have an enjoyable stay ⛳🌞
