My mate was at the Tokyo Olympics with Dick McTaggert, Jimmy Dunne who fought at lightweight which was McTaggerts best and former weight, he fought at light welterweight in the Tokyo Olympics, Jimmy said despite the fame which boxing had brought him throughout a very long career Dick was just one of the lads during the time he spent with the rest of the boxing team and was up for all the pranks and messing about they all shared together. It was amazing he never turned professional he must have had plenty of offers and could have potentially become a rich man but he was happy staying the way he was——a genuine, respected and well liked man, can’t get any better than that really. RIP Dick.
