We had 17 points when Dyche was sacked. Ipswich had 16 and Leicester 14.
Those two now both have only 17 each.
Being marginally better than the worst bottom 3 in prem history shouldn't be celebrated though, nor should it be the target.

I'm not doing either. I'm just saying we'd have been safe as houses and looking to the summer to get a decent manager in the owners had planned.

Being on minus goals per games should be an embarrassment for any club in any league. Very quickly reversed by the new manager coming in.

Just glad he is gone or at best we would have finished 17th with a record of lowest goals, lowest shots and Evertonians still blaming the players when most knew the players were better than what Dyche could get out of them. Seems a relief to the players that he is gone also

I think everyone wanted a new manager in the summer. But Dyche would have got us safe again this season too, no question about that IMO...with the tat below Everton it was inevitable we'd have survived anyway without Moyes.

This is the thing, its still a bounce season, whether he stayed or went, we're just chalking games of now, there isn't anything tangible being achieved.

The deviation will be a place or two - hopefully that might help with the compo of Dyche and Co. leaving.

The problem is for Moyes is that he's great at dampening down expectations and getting safety. But the fans will be on a different page soon. They know we have new owners with ambitions and a state of the art stadium we need a glorious team to play in.

Moyes doesn't fit into that scenario easily beyond a season or maybe two....if that long.

Would disagree mate, im a confirmed fan boy as you know. He'l influence it to the point that we are in the conversation for Europe - would be my predication - - while structurally will leave something substantial behind - i see him here for four/five years to be honest.

I think the difficulty will be allowing to operate in what looks a complicated structure, you can have all he skills in the world by yourself but if there are too many people in the room.....

Overall though hes in a honeymoon period, what we know particularly here is familiarity breeds contempt - Dyche is a case in point - people will turn on Moyes 100%, the longer he is here and also particularly if he spends money.

Our aim isn’t to “stay in the division” next season. Moyes won’t let it be either, regardless of whatever soundbites he gives about 40 points to the media. He’s not and never has been a manager that aims for 17th.

Jep, I wanted to get Dyche over the line under the condition he delivers an acceptable output of results, which wasn't the case this season. An extension of the contract was out of question for me.

We would have survived since the bottom 3 got increasingly worse and to survive with 26 points would be possible again this season. But I think it would have been a battle with Wolves for 16th and 17th.

I guess, if you are setting a 3/5 year objective - what is it?

Is it to win the league? - no

Is it recovery? - yes.

Is it to compete for European Football in the medium term? - yes.

Hes the man for that really isnt he.

By the time he goes i think wel be competing for Europe, will have recovered the club, managed the transitions you mention and he will have left behind something more substantial then he found. By that stage we should have a proper structure in place as well in footballing operations - that can support a managerial change.

How many seasons out of 11 did Moyes get under 50 points, out of curiosity? I see it’s different rules for him though.

Yes I wondered about that but 21points was still very good from the position he started from. You are still comparing him to Moyes I’m not I’m just waiting to see how he does in the future. I’m mentioning Moyes because you seem to be displaying double standards, saying you were grateful for Dyche getting us 48 points and then in the very next sentence saying Moyes is no genius and writing off his achievements despite regularly getting over 48 points.

They should be compared because they’ve both been our manager this season, it’s not like I’m comparing either of them to Ancelotti or Koeman, which would be pointless.
