If we manage to get a player in the next 48 hours who can fit straight into the system and the league and offer anywhere close to what Gana can do defensively (at his best, which he hasn't been in recent weeks, now) then we've done very, very well.

There's a reason PSG want the lad, ffs.
Not necessarily this window and no its not ideal, but I think we looked very boxed in and functional with Gana and Gomes with Sig in front personally. We need a player who can control play from deeper alongside two box to box players. Let's face it we have to start rebuilding now for next season, our season is over.

At 30m it feels a bit like the Arteta transfer to me.
Yes we'll be a bit weaker afterwards but it's a decent fee for a player of his age.
If we were in a top 6 hunt or a scrap I'd say no chance but if there's ever a time you could weaken the present with an eye on the future it's in this over-in-january, mid-table-guarantee nothing of a season.
The squad still needs a lot spending on it and when you have ffp and commitments to throw fortunes at the likes of Bolasie and Sandro in to the next decade then you have to generate some cash from somewhere.

You mean we can start shouting ‘where’s the gueye money farhad?’

Real Madrid wanted Graveson as a holding midfielder. Everton thought Sandro was one of the most promising young strikers in Europe. Clubs get things wrong all of the time. One of PSG’s scouts has probably seen his defensive stats and thought he’s the answer. They’re wrong.

They aren't if they're after an all-action player who'll fit into Tuchel's style.

Good luck to him, hope he does well. In the right set up he will. No 6 basically. Jack of all trades in our side wasn't working.

He could easily have played as a 6 for us. That's the frustration.

I'm sick of our better players leaving.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good fee for a player his age who does have limitations going forward.

But I'm sorry, if you'd told most people on here at the start of the window that with two days left we'd have sold Gueye and sent Niasse out loan, with Schneiderlin, Sandro, McCarthy (I do like him, though), Tosun (played well tonight, granted), I doubt many would have been happy.
