Doucoure/Ndombele (that type of player). An all-round dominant player. I don't think either are sitters though so we'd still need one of them, which is why i'd say we'd need two midfielders regardless of Gomes, if Gana goes.

As a shorter term fix i'd actually like Wanyama if he'd be available. Think he could play that holding role just fine and would rather him than Barrios, tbh. But he's 27, so it may go against our model.
........ Is the correct answer. Would love for us to scout well and sign a Doucoure-type who can do what Gueye does, but also provides an attacking threat.

The player i want is Ibrahim Sangare at Toulouse. The bloke must be 6'3 or 6'4 and built like a tank...can play the same way as Doucoure and only just turned 21 in Dec.

His performances last season were up there and this season hes taken it up a notch. If only we had signed him and Issa Diop last summer...

We would have had 2 young big athletic quality players for the spine.

Gueye is one of our best mids but there has been something wrong in the middle of the park for a while. It might him, it might not. However, given we aren't competing in any cup comps now and this is a massive move him, I think we should let him go, get the money and reinvest,

I think we need a more dominant player in the middle similar to Doucoure and need a better box to box mid. There is a real lack of creativity in the middle,.

No we don't need a short term fix. We are OK being short till the summer. Then we need to sign wisely.

A loan deal for someone would of course be fine in the short term. But not blowing big money.
If we don't get a replacement, I don't see us getting to 50 points. You can't beat anyone with a central midfield that poor.

I was 50/50 on him leaving, but it seems a good deal all round.

Davies may benefit from this opportunity too.

Gueye does fulfill an important role, but its a good return on a player of his age, who isn't blessed with any degree of technical ability.

It doesn't matter if we sell him and get say 45 points instead of 50, as long as we have got the correct midfield players in who will make us better next season.

My primary concern at this moment is getting a better side on the park on the opening day in August. That means getting our recruitment thoroughly planned, and that means Silva discarding the players whose ability, or attitude is not good enough.

Of course we want to win games. But the longer term picture is the most important. We can't afford to waste next season as well.

If we get 7th and make it into Europe, it's not a wasted season. Its key for our recruitment frankly.
We are two points out of 7th and with the right replacement, we are much better than Wolves. Watford, West Ham, Leicster, or Bournemuth.
Beyond that, there are certainly players available that would help and could be part of next years team as well.
