They couldn't score goals was their issue though. The had the 5th best defence (gkp are part of the defence) and the 4th worst attack. Even the stat you posted about xga wasn't relegation standard as it was 16th, not 18th.

And again, stats say he had a 76% or whatever save percentage, but how many were straight at him etc?
The combination of xG and xGA was relegation standard. Their expected goal difference was 18th in the league (xGD/90 = -0.64).

It is not easy to find good methods to measure goalkeeping. Statsbomb/fbref try looking at post shot xG. Their numbers from last season show that Wolves’ goalkeepers saved 8.5 goals more than what is expected/average. Best in the league with some margin.

For comparison, Pickford/Begovic comes out at -1.5. A ten goal swing on goalkeeper actions alone. And Pickford had a pretty good season.

No. I have not said that.

I mentioned it because Everton had massive injury problems most of last season. Often playing players out of position. Starting matches with 5th and 6th choice central defenders etc. More than 20 different defence configurations throughout the season is not helpful for any team.

22 goals conceded on set pieces was worst in the league. New players wont fix that.

It is strange that every successful club hire a lot of data scientists to improve their teams, but you guys that seemingly only watch football on teletext knows best.

Everton made more errors leading to goals than any other team (15)
Most goals from corners (22)
Most own goals (Keane 2, Coleman 1, Digne 1)

Your boy Jose Sa is is the 3rd keeper for errors leading to goals behind Foster and Krull

You're just pulling and comparing, adding and subtracting a whole load of stats to fall into a black hole to prove that a side who had the 5th best defensive record in the league (even over 4 seasons) is actually the 18th worst defence.

And pointing out how good Jose Sa is....yet you'd probably say the same with Rui Patricio and John Ruddy who were the keepers from 2018.

The bottom line to have consistently a top 5 best defence is down to having a consistent defence....of Boly and Coady.

WTF does that even mean?

The lengths we go to in here to find a negative, this one is hilarious!
Hence my Avatar! But there is a serious question to it and believe me it wasn't meant to be a negative...far from it. Between the two of them we could have a great central pairing as long as they are not competing against one another issuing contradictory instructions to their team mates.

- 98% of CDs in the league won more aerial duels than Coady last season
- +80% of CDs in the league had higher success rate in aerial duels than Coady last season
- +85% of the CDs in the league had more successful tackles than Coady last season
- +90% of the CDs in the league had more interceptions than Coady last season
- +90% of the CDs in the league recorded more pressures than Coady last season
- 97% of the CDs in the league won the ball more than Coady last season

Guess which individual from the very good defence they are happy to get rid of?

Coady is a good leader and good on the ball, but he does not defend. Never have. Never will.
Stats mean nothing.
