Confirmed Signing Conor Coady

What a bizarre thing to type out.
It's not bizarre at all. I was simply stating that coady in a very snide kopite way wanted more than anything to hurt us last season when he beat us with wolves and wanted us relegated, his twitter comments backed this up. You could see it all game.

Then against Leeds his mannerisms changed and he looked half bothered. It was an observation I remember making at the time.

It's not me saying I think he won't do well for us or not potentially become a blue. It's just an observation. He could be the next dave Watson, a proper leader and stalwart. Or he could become the next Ashley Williams and flatter to deceive. Both of those were reds.

Also why does he get a pass for showing such hatred towards us before but Rafael was victimised from day one and he's not even a proper red, just a professional manager.

I've just spoken to him johnjoe and can confirm he said he's gonna score as many own goals as possible before anyone cottons onto what he's doing and gets subbed off.

- 98% of CDs in the league won more aerial duels than Coady last season
- +80% of CDs in the league had higher success rate in aerial duels than Coady last season
- +85% of the CDs in the league had more successful tackles than Coady last season
- +90% of the CDs in the league had more interceptions than Coady last season
- +90% of the CDs in the league recorded more pressures than Coady last season
- 97% of the CDs in the league won the ball more than Coady last season

Guess which individual from the very good defence they are happy to get rid of?

Coady is a good leader and good on the ball, but he does not defend. Never have. Never will.

Behave mate. They're getting rid of Boly too purely down to the manager wanting to go to a back 4.

You've basically made out he's one of the worst defenders in the league... despite being in on average the 5th best defence in the league behind City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs.

Where are these twitter comments from him. I've only seen fake quotes so far.

And why should he not celebrating scoring the winner in a 1 nil. He's a professional footballer.

But it’s hardly Coady’s fault if Max Kilman hacks someone down in the corner of the 18 yard box, or Dendoncker puts a stupid hand up and punches the ball away from a corner. Rather than use stats I think you should simply watch football to judge players. It’s a tried and tested foolproof method.
Fair. But if Kilman didn’t have to cover for Coady’s shortcomings, he might not have had to hack someone down.

I just don’t buy into what people say that Wolves were great defensively last season. Everyone that watched them saw how poor they were. If they were as good as someone here mean, they would not have invested heavily in Collins and changed formation. They were 10th in the league but are aware of that their underlying numbers more often than not means relegation.

It is very helpful to have the by far best shotstopper in the league.

Actually think Holgate will do well as the third CB with Tark and Coady around him. Showed enough on the weekend to be optimistic about his chances I reckon.

I am glad Holgate is working hard to improve his game. He lost his way the last couple of seasons but seems to be refreshed under FL. real solid performance against Chelsea.

On the flip side you say we weren't the worst because of "injuries and suspensions" yet the team with the 5th best defence is "awful" because of Jose Sa

Lol

This guy was desperate to get one of over us and see us relegated just 3 months ago when wolves beat us 1 nil and he scored. Seems strange he now is set to join us. Not sure how I feel about a proper kopite joining us, could go either way
But isn't that a good thing? Don't you want our player to get one over the opponents?

No. I have not said that.

I mentioned it because Everton had massive injury problems most of last season. Often playing players out of position. Starting matches with 5th and 6th choice central defenders etc. More than 20 different defence configurations throughout the season is not helpful for any team.

22 goals conceded on set pieces was worst in the league. New players wont fix that.

It is strange that every successful club hire a lot of data scientists to improve their teams, but you guys that seemingly only watch football on teletext knows best.

They couldn't score goals was their issue though. The had the 5th best defence (gkp are part of the defence) and the 4th worst attack. Even the stat you posted about xga wasn't relegation standard as it was 16th, not 18th.

And again, stats say he had a 76% or whatever save percentage, but how many were straight at him or 'comfortable saves' etc?

Resale value klaxon!!!

Sometimes you have to take a hit to get to a certain place. I think they're all good enough to take us to that mid-table level and away from the uneasy place we are. If all of our signings were like this it would be worrying but the signings of Onana and McNeil show that our transfer policy this summer is quite mature. A mix of proven current quality and high potential.

Cause benitez was past it and crap.

Coady is at his peak, an England international and was a key part of the 5th best defence last season.
