Cars today

On a 4-6k budget, go and give SAAB 9-3 a look. Healthy market around the last of line 2010/2011 and as a previous owner a great drive, especially on a long run. Aesthetically pleasing with a great dash panel and the best cup holder ever made.
To be honest I’m in no rush to get anything. I have my Vivaro van and my Mrs has her fairly fresh Fiat 500 which is great around town. I was just thinking of getting something a bit bigger than her car that I could use daily to drive to work. I quite like the Mondeo and the Insignia …. But again, I’m in no rush to get anything to be honest.

Posted something in a different thread about the different cars around in the 80’s and early 90’s compared to what we have today. I used to love looking at cars when I was younger or the varied choices when shopping for a new car. I’m currently toying with the idea of buying a second car, nothing too expensive.. around the 4K-6k mark but honestly I can’t be bothered looking. They all look the same now, no character about them or anything that makes them aesthetically stand out. The only thing that’s caught my eye are the Jaguar XF ? …. Everything else just appears very samey …. Mokka, kuga, etc
XF are decent cars, big mind; and not really what I'd call 'second car'.

Maserati Quattroporte could be an alternative to the XF. Very special, rare and the Ferrari developed V8 engine makes the car hands down the best sounding executive car out there, from the older naturally aspirated V8 engine era.

Agree, that cup holder is an absolute masterpiece

If you can stretch your budget a little to about 80k, you could bag yourself a modern version of the Mk1 Escort. They are made in Wales too, I believe.

Modern cars ars generally copies of one another, designed years ago in a wind tunnel. You can have anything you want as long as it's enormous and overbloated.

They're also designed to make it very hard for you to do work on them yourself.

My missus just got a modern mini. It's all about the environment. They advertise 38-50 mpg. The reality is (through surveying users) 27-38mpg. I have a 55 year old MG Midget that does 30-40 !

Get a classic.

If I get one, it’ll either be an SUV or a larger saloon … I’m a tad over 6ft tall and suffer with a long standing sciatic condition so space is a must for me to have a comfortable driving position, that’s why enjoy driving my van tbh as I’m virtually sat up straight .. I once drove my sisters audi A3 and just felt so cramped

Cars are extremely boring these days. I used to be a petrol head myself, but you’re right - it’s all a generic, massively overpriced sea of sameness. Buying a car is like buying a new boiler these days - a boring expense for a necessary utility.
Have you seen the new MG 4 x-power?

430bhp. 4wd. 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. A beast!!

Brand new for £26k currently.. Ferrari killer!

it'll get much worse when the car market is a majority of electric cars. The motors will all be similar, sound similar (shabite), will be slaves to aerodynamics so will look similar. It'll be like buying a washing machine, purely functional. One of the reasons I bought something with a v8 engine while they are still around. Burn some dyne juice, the planet/human race is doomed anyway.

A few years ago there was an Ad similar but with more cares in the picture than below

"Tell me again why you bought a Landrover?"

This was about houses 50 60 yrs ago - the principle is the same
...🎼🎵 Little boxes, little boxes, they're all made out of tricky tacky and the all look just the same

Edit; that Jag I was after for au$ 6,900, is down to 4000 - I've still got no space though.

Try sitting in a modern mini! Twice the size of an original, half the interior space. Mad.
