Rooney 31, achieved everything he can in club football and wanted to come back to us as has an affinity with the club and would only get limited playing time with United this season.

I'm making the point that players will move clubs even with them not being in the champions league. If he's world class potentially and less than sigurdsson it makes sense to go for him.
