“Clear Progress”

Injuries and an appalling lack of depth in the squad limited what could be achieved.

However, had two good cup runs, got ten points more than last season in the league and won away at Mordor, Arsenal, Leicester and Spurs.

I didn’t enjoy the football in the second half of the season, we just didn’t seem to get over the injuries. We carried an awful lot of passengers that didn’t contribute anything on the pitch - Delph, Bernard etc.

We were also unlucky with Gbamin, but next season I think we have to assume he isn’t returning. It’s a bonus if he does.

10 points because of Silva being part of it last year. Carlo's points per game in remarkably steady for the whole of his time now.

There is progress. Some of us believed we could do it. Unfortunately this was forgetting that it's Everton we are talking about and somehow we always grab defeat from the jaws of victory. We ended the season 9 points off top 4 which is the closest we've been in a long time. I think the choker is we ended up in 10th and there were so many missed opportunities.
Spot on this, and that's whats so frustrating, especially with the better away form and winning games at our usual bogey grounds.

Europe was there if the players wanted it badly enough, 10%-20% more effort or belief and I think we could have got the champs league spot, but the usual shithouses did what they've done for the last 4-5 years and collapsed, any time it mattered.

I hope Carlo get huge backing from the club and takes action with those players he outed as not wanting to be with us - take the hit and sell them for whatever fees or frees/cancel contracts/pay them off, just to clear the decks and continue to move us forward.

Surely it was the same shithouses? or are you saying that the former was down to Carlo and the latter was down to the players?

She’s not up to the task.

I was skeptical of her appointment, but I think she could be given credit for the stadium progress to date at least. I assume Ancelotti's appointment was directly the work of Moshiri and Usmanov, but she couldn't be criticised either by the same token for being in the CEO's chair when that appointment was delivered.

She does warrant criticism in my book for giving Brands a contract extension. It shoudn't even have been a particularly tough decision to assess that we haven't gone anywhere with him.

No, the same shithouses mate.

I don't know about you but I had zero expectation of us winning at anfield/spurs/arsenal, yet they did when there wasn't really anything on those games ( no home fans absolutely helped).

Any time we needed a result, against so called lesser teams, they bottled it = shithouses.

Carlo isn't blameless by any stretch - some of his selections, tactics and subs were difficult to understand, as was the freezing out of the younger lads like nkounkou, and Tommy D when he was playing relatively well.

To a degree he's playing the hand he's dealt, but we have made progress imo - he just needs to launch more of the dossers out the door and get players who give a monkeys in.

Progress is what West Ham achieved.
We’ve been turgid.
Very lucky in some games to get 3 points, lately Arsenal springs to mind and Wolves.
Signs of wafer thin squad and little attacking options were there from early doors with the defeat at Villa when we should of pushed on.
We’re treading water at best.

Inappropriate Behaviour
The really good Ancelotti teams never played like the Magic Magyars or the Brazil 86 team either though. his best sides kept their shape, valued the ball, could withstand long stints without possession and were usually clinical in front of goal.

At times, especially the first half of the season, we played enough like some of those teams so you could squint hard and see progress if you tried. The football since boxing day and the results have taken most of that away imo. A negative goal difference, tenth in the league, star player taking snaps in his jet while his teammates get mullered up the Lancs road.

Richi tried hard but was [Poor language removed] all season and Dom has something about him but I doubt he'll ever be a Shevchenko or Inzaghi quality finisher. This makes it a bit [Poor language removed] because the Italian managers gameplan revolves around taking chances when presented and not making [Poor language removed] ups - ala Holgate - when we don't have the ball. Inzaghi is the sort of quality he was used to working with. We have Soggy and a [Poor language removed] hobbit on 120k a week.

I don't know where we go from here. I saw enough that with the right group of players Ancelotti has a lot to offer. But I've also seen enoguh of this group, and I'm painfully aware of the low ceiling they possess. Putting half a billion quid into the playing groupwhile paying for a stadium seems unlikely, but if Moshiri doesn't what the [Poor language removed] was he point of hiring Anceloti? I don't take my Ford Fiesta for a service at Aston Martin. We need to cut our coat to suit the cloth. Kenwright was wise enough to get a young up and coming manager - even if he did end up having a ceiling of his own - and let the club move forward accordingly.

My view is Brands either gets some quality into this group or we might as well get Eddie Howe and aim for midtable until BMD is built and being paid down. Right now, once again, we have more questions than answers. That shouldn't happen at the end of a season - we're not going to get anymore clarity now.
