Gets hot after several minutes, the remaining insulation becomes pliant and allows a short to ground. Wrap some tape around it short term, to keep the smoke in and see if the engine runs longer.

I put it up again yesterday and they offered £8305I've got a 10 year old mondeo Titanium,econetic diesel, leather seats, sat nav, parking sensors, heated seats and best of all no road tax.
Had it 6 years no problems bar usual wear and tear.

On top of my other car problems, if they weren't enough, my 24 yr old Alternator on the Landrover finally packed in.
I more or less know what type it is, but as it's deep in the bowels of the beast I can't get a good visual on it.
So I emailed my local Landrover Dealer with my Vin Number, apparently the last 6 numbers allow them to give you chapter and verse on the correct part number.
This is what I got back...

Tried the robbers at Rimmer Bros (UK) au$ 498
Then checked postage au$ 174
Again gtf.
Finally found one out of Frankfurt of all places au$425 delivered -

Thats what I thought when I had to replace the V8 alternator as part of the rebuild.Can you not get a recon ?
A lot of places in the UK, do like for like swaps - old for recon, with a 12mth guarantee ?
