That looks like a wire that's let some of its smoke out!
Gets hot after several minutes, the remaining insulation becomes pliant and allows a short to ground. Wrap some tape around it short term, to keep the smoke in and see if the engine runs longer.

tbh it could've been my fault, I snipped 4 or 5 cable ties to get access to other stuff

Well left-ish...maybe middle left, the rusty bit is the drivers side exhaust manifold

If it doesn't rin at all now ... check fuses.

I've got a 10 year old mondeo Titanium,econetic diesel, leather seats, sat nav, parking sensors, heated seats and best of all no road tax.
Had it 6 years no problems bar usual wear and tear.
I put it on webuyanycar last year for curiosity and was offered £7000

I put it up again yesterday and they offered £8305
Its low mileage but even so

Look for a 2008-11 Merc C Class 220CDI. Keep it below 100k if you can.

Recently bought a 2010 Merc C Class C250CDI Sport - 85k mileage - and goes like doodoo off a hot shovel. Daren't try the sport mode...yet!!

Recently bought a 2010 Merc C Class C250CDI Sport - 85k mileage - and goes like doodoo off a hot shovel. Daren't try the sport mode...yet!!

250 is the same engine as the 220 but with a bigger turbo. Amazing engine.
