The costs at the time were massive.

The harm done since has somehow been even larger.

The obnoxious twittery* that has been unleashed from then seems to have snowballed and become to some something to be proud of. "No one is telling me anything ever again!". Fueled by social media, the imbeciles were mobilised, and flag bearers for them came to the fore. It's been a steady deterioration but covid made it much sharper and suddenly being a thick twit* was not only ok it was actively encouraged. So what if I'm thicker than mince, that's everyone else's problem. All the wrong people died.

Most started walking.
Then stopped.
I was annoyed I wasn't furloughed more,I only made paper, which most if us believed wasn't essential, obviously shareholders would disagree.
Think a lot of profiteering has happened since.

Depends on the type of paper made. I work in paper and we were essential because cardboard was needed for the food industry. I alternated days in office and from home although our lockdowns were not for very long here. Loved the lack of traffic on the roads and the cheap fuel.
