4pm announcement Barkley Signs new 4 year deal [Dont post GIFS]

That's what them lot thought when Saurez signed a 5 year contract last December.

Contract means nothing these days, but at least it will not run the risk of him being sold in the summer for cheap due to 12 months left on his contract.

Barkley is Everton through and through. Suarez was a Uruguayan they signed from Ajax.

The argument some of you mention here that he's a lifelong blue is invalid in my opinion. Just look at Southampton: Shaw, Chambers etc. both were lifelong Soton players but when they had one good season at the beginning of their careers, they immediately left. If Barkley wanted the money, he could've forced himself out too. Don't take this for granted, this is a great achievement!

Exactly right mate.

United are paying young Shaw £130k per week, Ross has reportedly agreed his new deal with us at half of that.

Barkley signing isn't the issue. It's the use of it to mask inertia at the club that's the issue.

This - we are all desperate for new signings and this looked like it was going to be one. We all love Ross but he is ours already.

Also, makes me feel there is nothing else in the pipeline as even Everton can't hold 2 pressies in 24/48 hours?

Why only 4 years? Renegotiate in the future if you need a pay raise but surely a longer contract makes a better statement

Considering Man Utd are paying Shaw, what 130k per week? And we've just tied Ross down on 65k a week, then I can understand why he might not have wanted to commit to any longer on those terms.

Considering the press have been trying to flog Ross to any of the alleged 'big clubs' for the last few weeks, and the fact that he's the hottest prospect to come out of the youth set up since Rooney, I would expect nothing less than a press conference to announce this. It's an opportunity for the club to make an 'up yours' statement, and it shows we're serious about building a good young team. To criticise the way it was done is petty beyond belief. This is excellent news, and should be celebrated as such. Let's hope it's not the last press conference we hold in the next week or so.
