An independent Disciplinary Commission issued its decision today in a case brought by the Premier League against Everton FC for breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

Just read the commissions judgement for myself.
The amount of the default - £19.5m - is considered a serious breach, which feels mad in
the context of what Chelsea and City are spending every week. Too little weight is given to mitigating factors. Yes for a period the club was spending beyond its means, making poorly judged player purchases that didnt work out. But in 2020/21 they had to deal with a very difficult set of circumstances, the unprecedented Covid losses, changes in the transfer market that made it harder to sell players like Tosun, and financing the new stadium. It's clear that the club was engaging with the PL and was trying to comply, perhaps mistakes were made, but the commission doesn't discuss what more it thinks that the club should have done in 2021 to raise funds.
Ominously the commission is very clear that a points deduction is an appropriate sanction for a breach such as this. If our main argument is lack of proportionality, best we can hope for may be a small reduction in the points penalty.
