Was wigans not cash flow issues and failing to pay players/staff? Rather than breaching ffp (you could argue that those issues would lead to ffp breaches but at that time it hadn’t).
Wigan Athletic will start the 2023-24 League One season on minus eight points after a suspended points deduction by the English Football League (EFL) was enacted after the club failed to deposit funds to cover its wage bill.
The EFL deducted four points last week after the club failed to pay players for a fifth time, further to previous breaches of league regulations.
It deducted three points from their total this season and has now enacted a further four-point sanction that had been suspended.
The EFL said in a statement on Friday: “Following the failure to ensure that an amount equal to 125 per cent of the club’s forecast monthly wage bill was deposited in a designated club account by Wednesday May 24, as per the order of an Independent Disciplinary Commission, Wigan Athletic Football Club has been deducted a further four points and will now start the 2023-24 season on minus eight points (-8).
“This follows a previous sanction of four points after failing to pay its players’ wages on time in March 2023 and May 2023.

Why are their stories about only us and Forest having an anxious wait till next Monday to find out if we have been referred. No other clubs close at all??
The club will have known if we had breached the most recent period months ago. Only the fans have an anxious wait.
We already know how all of our mitigations were dealt with (i.e. mainly ignored). There are no mitigations or oddities to argue about in the 22/23 accounting period. The PSR losses for the other years in this assessment period have already been agreed with commission as part of the last referral and are now set in stone. Would take 2 minutes to work out if we’d breached again based on the most recent accounts. The club knows if we are clear or not. It’s not like last time where there were discussions to be had. Not sure if I’m worried they haven’t come out and trashed these reports and turned all the focus onto Forest. Dignified silence maybe, but would have preferred an official middle finger from the club.
