6 + 2 Point Deductions

I don’t think the PL agenda is that vindictive or simple as being anti Everton but people seem to continuously overlook what the PL is, it’s a cash generating machine that has a sole aim to make money. It’s a private company accountable only to the clubs that play in it and the majority of these at the bottom are transitory members with very little sway. Its entire revenue generation model is dependent on tv deals and the sponsorships that come with that and they are dependent on eyeballs and the consumer pound that follows that.

Hence we’ve seen football teams in the lower leagues of the pyramid go to the wall without any concern from the PL or its clubs whatsoever who could have saved any of these teams in the blink of an eye. We’ve seen plans for the 39th game, the reaction to the super league teams etc. The PL may as well be a big bank, except whilst it can be as equally immoral it doesn’t have to conform to any of the regulation as bank or other large corporation would have to.

It is in the PLs interests for the teams that bring in the most viewing figures to do well. They are historically the teams at the top Liverpool Arsenal United and increasingly City and Chelsea. That is why Google UPS and Nivea are partnering with these teams and not Crystal Palace and Fulham.

It is the Pl associated media’s interest to generate content that attract these eyeballs. Pro Liverpool content is great, anti Everton content is also pretty good because more people will read that than a pro Everton piece which might get a few readers in L4 but not much wider.

This goes to a wider scale as well. UEFA and their sponsors do not want to see Everton Fulham Palace In their flagships competitions, they want United Liverpool City etc.

You can even take it wider and look at the increasing number of last day finishes now for the title and relegation places compared to previous seasons. People remember the Michael Thomas goal and Blackburn at Anfield as exceptions but since Aguero in 2011 we’ve now had 3 more occasions when the title has been decided on the last day, that’s 4 in 12 years, a far higher rate statistically than previously. Similar is happening with relegation battles to and the CL places, we are not seeing title winners, top 4 places, and bottom 3s being decided in March anymore like we used to.

If it wasn’t for the excellence of Dyche we’d be in another relegation battle now probably lasting the entirety of the season which would have sparked new life into the bottom of the table that was looking done by Christmas at the current rate. All of the news reports about Everton and the point deduction will have driven many many kopite eyeballs to the PLs media channels, and it had the associated benefit of making the PL look tough in the face of looming regulation safe in the knowledge they can upset a member that has zero sway on the success of their product.

The customers that the PL work for are the consumer fans of Liverpool United Arsenal City Chelsea and any other team who can get successful enough to sway the PLs profit and loss numbers when it comes to tv deal and sponsorship renegotiation time.

Anyone who believes the PL is some benevolent administration working for the benefit of its 20 members that just happens to be a bit incompetent is quite frankly naive.

You dont become the richest most successful sporting competition in the world through being incompetent. They know exactly what they’re doing which is what they’ve always done, favourably ensure the success of the teams that drive revenue on a rotational basis giving the illusion of fair competition and unpredictability without ever actually having any of these things outside of the favoured teams over a season long basis. Sure a Brentford or Bournemouth can beat Liverpool or United in a one off game, they might finish above them for one season but they will never ever be allowed to consistently displace them and deprive them of their revenues (and the PL’s associated revenues from fans watching them)

There’s people on this forum basically arguing that the PL doesn’t conform to capitalism and is somehow some fair moral arbiter. If I had to put my mortgage on whether it’s the former or the latter I know which one I’d bet on.
Excellent Post

I think its a total fallacy that they have it in for us.

We broke the rules, we got punished, people acting like they made it all up is a bit weird.

That doesnt mean the punishment was excessive, but that was solely for political reasons.
I know where you're coming from but enough is enough.
All clubs feel they get the shitty end of it one way or another but it really has become the norm for us now !!
And the way most of us have accepted everything from the Euro ban onward amazes me !
Its almost like we should march down Goodison Road whipping our own backs !

What sports have fans left to watch in Scotland? Absolute drivel! Relative to population Scotland has one of the healthiest match day attendances across the divisions in all of Europe!

The tv sponsorship deals for the SPL says otherwise. No one watches it and do you know why? Because it’s boring. Celtic and Rangers would routinely beat everyone and it’s now got the point where it’s almost just Celtic routinely beating everyone. Local fans might go to the game because they enjoy it but not many people aside from this are watching the games.

There was a time when everyone watched Serie A. You could see all the best players but crucially you didn’t know if Milan, Inter, Juventus, Parma, Napoli Sampdoria, Roma, Lazio would win the title, there was something for a lot of teams there even when they didn’t win it. Capitalism and the CL revenues did its thing and then we had a few years of Juventus Milan rotating it with Inter occasionally, and then pretty much just Juventus for a decade. The end result? - no one watches Serie A any more and the money has left. Same has happened in Ligue Un, same in Bundesliga, same in La Liga.

The market has a funny way of correcting itself. Some of these leagues have become so monopolised by one team, and so boring to watch that people have stopped watching and revenue has fallen, leading to the top tier teams becoming weaker and the chasing pack bridging the gap meaning it’s more competitive again. Wer’e now seeing interest returning to Serie A because Juventus have fallen away and it’s a much more interesting title race.

The prem has just been better at keeping the illusion of competition rotating between 5 teams but eventually the exact same cycle will happen. People will get bored of watching City or Liverpool win the league and they’ll just go and watch something more competitive.

It might not be some major conspiracy against us, but it definitely is a case of them not wanting to protect us (despite what P&S is purported to do) whereas they are tip-toeing around the big6 cash cows as per Super League sanction
As somebody here mentioned before, we are big enough to be a good example, but small enough to not upset a huge global fan-base

TV Deals for Football have been stalling and declining in recent years across the world.

The latest TV deal for the UK market has been sold as an improved deal but the reality is the League has allowed a lot more games to be shown on TV.

Per game the amount of money Sky and TNT has paid is a lot lower than the previous deal.

It’s oversaturation, they’ll do the same with the super league. People like the rarity of Real Madrid v Bayern Munich because it’s not supposed to happen all that often. The current CL is struggling a bit because we just keep seeing City v Madrid v Bayern etc. year after year, but if it moves to a competition where you can see these teams play each other multiple times per season then the value of it will be lost. There’s just too much football available at the moment so the value of it in a marketplace is going down.

I was saying yesterday, the CL draw is absolutely pathetic. Basically it does its utmost to ensure top teams can't face each other until as late as possible and the reasons are absolutely farcical.

Just stick them all in a pot from the start if they get drawn in the group of death from the start then tough.

Sky Breaking News:

The FAPL has just issued the following statement,

“ in the event of any one or all below mentioned scenarios taking place between now and the end of the 2023/2024 season,

ie - inclement weather resulting in games cancelations, a natural disaster, a pandemic, a terrorist attack, civil war, a cyber attack, an alien invasion thus resulting in lost PL revenue, we hereby deem it necessary and appropriate to deduct Everton FC an additional 6 league points with immediate effect”
Can’t see this on the Sky Sports app or webpage anywhere mate. Do you have a link?

Why wouldn't they?

Ah, so Forest have signed 947 players, have sacked their manager and have now agreed to sign Nuno and his 9,725 back room staff. I look forward to their accounts and their 10 point deduction, which will certainly happen. :hayee:
The PL won't deduct points because they'll be a championship team either next August or the following August.. they are utterly rubbish. They may survive this year because of the 3 currently occupying the relegation zone being horrific.

Why wouldn't they?

They just want to ensure the same old same old. First of all, it's not the Champions League any more, because only a small percentage are actually champions. Second, they just want 'big' games late on. Its set up to bring in fodder to increase the earning potential for set clubs. They intentionally reduce the chances of a shock winner by organising it as they do.

They should run it like the FA Cup. All balls in, you get who you get.
