2020/21 Abdoulaye Doucouré

He seems to have been given about 8 different jobs in every game lately.

He's tasked with babysitting the full-back, bombing on, collecting the ball from the defence, running with it, playing right wing-back, playing right-back

We know he can be a threat and we know he can get about the pitch. Just let him do it. Stop overcomplicating things.

A 4-3-3 can work with two box-to-box mids and a player to just keep things ticking over. If that has to be Delph or Gomes for now, then fine, but lets get the best out of our better players.

Doucoure was crap yesterday but we need to see him getting into the area like he did for his chance 3-4 times a game at least. That isn't just on him. We need to be able to start keeping the ball and building moves, which bar for 20 minutes v Fulham we just haven't done lately.

Yeah, we've mentioned it before, I don't think Carlo really knows how to use him as he constantly seems to be asked / doing different things all the time.

Don't get me wrong, players should be good enough to do multiple tasks adequately and perform better than he did yesterday.

But when the team aren't playing well, why not just simplify things.

Its early days but up to now he hasn't even performed much better than Gylfi and Schneiderlin. Hopefully he will improve massively, did the Watford fans even rate this lad?

He has been patchy the last few games but is clearly trying so please let’s not conflate him with iceman or snider. He needs some consistency in a role and the players both behind and next to him. Allan also has taken time to settle and the signs there are now very positive. Am hoping JPG when he eventually returns is the third piece of the midfield unit. Time will tell.

If it means going back to 4-3-3, I'd let Gomes be the one to sit and take the ball off the defence. There'll be times where he gets swarmed, a la Jorginho under Sarri, but at least it'd free up Doucoure and Allan to get about more.

Delph should have been given the Bolasie / Besic treatment.

What I'm worried about is he doesn't seem to be able to set up an attacking move. The first requirement for that is completing a pass to players in front of you and running until space. He doesn't seem to be able to make simple passes like he gets his angles wrong on the ball on a lot of occasions.

Why are we so bad at recruitment?

I think that we certainly can ask questions about team selection on Saturday.
I thought Tom Davies did very well but he certainly is not a wing back and JJ Kenny would have been more comfortable in that role.
We coped well in many respects when you consider we were missing two of our more potent threats from out wide.. Coleman and Digne. Liverpool would certainly be hampered by the loss of both TAA and Robertson.
Given that we were playing with three centre backs I would have liked to see how Kenny and Nkounkou would have done.

Saturday also showed how important Digne is for Richarlison.
