Capoue far superior out of the two

Havnt seen much of him but based on the game the other day I would agree, was impressed with capoue . I actually thought we were lucky to win that match tbh. Watford played decent footy and a lot of one touch in tight areas and looked far more dangerous , sharp and played with more pace than we did on the flanks. We were really struggling to put 3 passes together in the second half.

He had a terrific game, no doubt. But Doucoure is a much more aggressive and talented offensive player. Either way not sure there is a better CM/DM combo in the league. Honestly. Not much better at least. Gracia's tactics really ask a lot of those guys. They are outstanding.

They are really tough in midfield. They made it tough for us last year and they will likely make it tough for everyone else in the league. Capoue is a terrific player. No question.

They had us pinned from about 60 minutes on. I don't like the idea of spending massive money on slightly above average players with little room for development but Doucoure is still a good player.
No coincidence that neither Gomes or Gbamin were fully fit and were starting to struggle a little around the hour mark. I think that is a big factor in Watford’s centre midfield ‘pinning us down’ from about 60 minutes on. Still, all about opinions.

That's certainly fair. Marco maybe not making the right adjustments could be part of it, although he didn't have many options. A healthy Delph and a ready Iwobi might have changed things a bit.

But those two Watford mids are still pretty darn good.

Thought it was a lot earlier than the hour mark personally. I thought we were the better side for the first 25 minutes, then waivered for 10 minutes, and were then second best from that point on. We didn't get a grip of the midfield at all, and the attacking players offered very little. We won because we got a goal in our period of dominance and then stuck it out defensively. Gomes used the ball well but was overrun a bit, Gbamin was better than last week but still looked below average. Capoue in particular, but Doucoure too, dominated the middle of the pitch.

Fair assessment mate

They created one clear chance in the second half mate. We invited them on and sat back. Didn't bother engaging with them until in our own half.
