2024/25 Abdoulaye Doucoure

….Moyes would clearly disagree. He’s always been dreadful in possession yet I think he’s been critical to maintaining our top flight status in recent times. I remember him getting sent off against Spurs and posters were wondering how we’d cope without him.

I’ve always appreciated what he brings to the team, what he’s done for this club but I’ll be chuffed when we’re able to progress without him. Saying that, he’ll probably be required for a bit just yet. I like him.
Ah, back to bending history.

Dyche only knew how to use 1 player - Doucoure - and built the team around him. It was obvious we'd miss him as we had no plan B. Not due to Doucoure being amazing, but due to the limitations of a very crap manager - similar to how when DCL was out we hoofed to Maupay and then Beto.

Carlo used him in the only way he could in a team that plays football - to get the ball back, play a 3 ft pass if possible, that's it. No responsibility on the ball, no other task - get the ball back, play it to literally anyone else. It's an important role for sure, but one that Gueye does much better as he can also control and pass the ball.

Behind the striker he's done well recently... for 45 min. Second half has been abysmal as his legs are going and that's his literal only quality - running. Alcaraz does much better and more and can play the sport we're watching.

I'll always fondly remember his goal that saved us (and how we should've been safe well before that but we had to play him instead of any footballer because Dyche loevd him) but he's getting older and worse. The only reason we should do a deal to keep him is he's at 50% of his current wage at most.
