2024/25 Abdoulaye Doucoure

Other than under Lampard, the other managers have had Doucoure as one of the first names on the team sheet. For the first half of the season he looked like he was playing with an injury to me.
His wages always used as a reason not to renew, but I think most would take him on reduced wages for another season.
I would like to see him in a deeper role, where James Garner plays, so we can put in a number 10 with more finesse in the final 3rd.
If Doucoure does leave we need to find someone who has his energy and work rate
Needs to be on the bench and used as a sub for last 15 mins if he stays. We need a midfielder who can dictate the game a bit and is actually good on the ball. Not another “presence” who can tackle, we already have that in Gana.

He’s not good enough to play deeper, his ability on the ball makes him a liability in a deep role.
He suited a dyche team because he didn’t want the ball, so hard workers who run all
Day, are his go to players, If Moyes wants us to kick on, have more of the ball,
Create more chances and put teams to bed,
You need so much better than the majority of forward players we have and that includes doucoure

The thing with this is that he'd be very limited in the circumstances we could use him. We are either chasing the game and his passing will break attacks down or we are trying to hold onto a lead and his passing will cause us trouble.

For me, he's best used in games where we expect to have very little possession and he can just fill passing lanes and press.

Either way, we shouldn't be offering him anywhere near the terms he's on at the moment.

…..i don’t get too tied up with his earnings because at least he’s playing and making a valuable contribution, week after week, season after season. We have too many on big bucks who rarely contribute, remember some on here wanting to give Dele Alli a new deal.

I’d be amazed if Doucoure doesn’t already have a few suitors, Managers will know what an effective footballer he is, but he clearly wants to stay. Plays like the game matters, amazingly fit, I’d be surprised if the club don’t at least make him an offer for two more seasons.

Worth it alone for that Bournemouth goal. Scandalous lol
That’s bull and you know it , Connor Coady kicked one off the line late on v Bournemouth, why didn’t we give him a contract for life. I’m sure if you go through that season,
Doucoure would have also cost us goals and chances to score goals, he’s one of the reason we were in that position

As a body to give us options for certain games, I'd extend if he eas willing to drop to back up/rotation style wages....

It'd have to be 50-60k a week tops and that's being generous taking into consideration his current wage

So running around like a headless chicken 8 games in 10 is worth 120k a week

If I owned a busy pub I wouldn’t think twice about making him an offer to work behind the bar—— what a grafter he’d be worth his weight in gold! Then again I’d have to think about all those dropped bottles and glasses!

He may have a few suitors,
But none of them are paying anywhere near 120k a week, because the teams interested will be the likes of Burnley,
Maybe silva at Fulham. Only Saudi will
Pay him more. And if club wanted him
To stay, I’m not sure giving him
2 years at 80k say, is a great idea taking him to 35, and a bit part player, the club may as well have just done one year at 120k

Which is why it's important that we need to start setting an actual precedent at the club, Eggs. Letting go of high earners sends a clear message that you've got to be the dogs bollocks to start earning money like that from now on.

Doucoure doesn't fit that IMO, despite his odd contribution over the last few seasons.

I liked Yerry Mina - cracking player/defender on his day, but his injuries meant that we simply couldn't justify his wages. Same with Doucoure and his complete lack of technical ability for a 'number 10'..

Why are so many people now so definite on their views on everything. There's no middle ground with a lot of people.
Is he a world beater . No.
Is he an effective player . At times yes.
He's not as bad as some say though. He has valuable attributes that help the team . And seems to be a guy with a good attitude who other players really like.
If he agreed to a lesser contract I'd keep him for a year with an option.
We will still need a squad next season .
We ain't bringing in 13/14 new players
