2024/25 Abdoulaye Doucoure

Why are so many people now so definite on their views on everything. There's no middle ground with a lot of people.
Is he a world beater . No.
Is he an effective player . At times yes.
He's not as bad as some say though. He has valuable attributes that help the team . And seems to be a guy with a good attitude who other players really like.
If he agreed to a lesser contract I'd keep him for a year with an option.
We will still need a squad next season .
We ain't bringing in 13/14 new players
Yes to help a team that’s struggling and fighting relegation every season.
Question for you and everyone If we could sign 27yr old doucoure this summer for 20mil and 100k a week, would you?

Probably not . But we don't need to spend 20 million on him. For the right terms I'd have him in the squad next season and spend the money saved on his fee on other players .

For the wages he is currently earning ,absolutely not. Apparently one of our highest earners, and that’s not want you want your squad players to be, so to your point, the right terms, would have to be way less than what he’s on. You want highest earners to be bonafide 1st team starters every week, earning their wage and taking us up to the next level. I don’t want a squad full of big earners sat on the bench week in, week out. This transfer window is our most important in many a year and reinventing the squad will be a huge undertaking. Last minute winners aside, I just don’t feel he’s good enough if we actually do wish to progress from next season. Some key goals etc along the way, but thanks for your services and off you pop.

That's why i said for the right terms .
We need a squad. But i don't think he would agree to a big reduction in wages anyway. So he will be off.

He took the goal very well on Saturday.

However that was only his third prem goal of the season. He didn't score this season in the league until 1st Feb.

Last season after getting injured at Burnley he came back late January he scored one v Sheffield United right at the end.

4 prem goals in 16 months from the "10".

Ndiaye already has seven league goals playing in variety of positions and being injured for six weeks so I think being a reliable penalty taker he'd get double figures comfortably next season.

To get back in top half you need goals right across the front line.

Doucs needs to be thanked for his service and moved on which looks to be the club's thinking so the new owners are learning as to what needs to be done from June 2025 onwards.

Interesting where he ends up. Seems settled in England so Burnley could do worse given how lightweight they looked last time up.

He gets a signing on fee, I read that usually a signing on fee is a years salary, so With some wanting a 2yr deal and you’re probably looking at 80k minimum. So 12mil the whole deal, that pays for Alcaraz ,
I know you have to pay him a wage as well, but it won’t be 80k and theres’s a potential for him to get better and have a sell on fee.
If it came down to you only get one, Surely you buy Alcaraz

But as I said you need a squad. Say we do buy Alcaraz we still need competion for him. If that was Doucoure on reduced terms then I'd be fine with that. If he agreed to that on a 1 year deal. But he probably won't.
Otherwise you are looking at signing someone else for a fee and also their wages. We won't have a bottomless pit of money .

….it really isn’t that simple. We all know Doucoure is not a conventional no10, indeed there’s an argument to suggest he actually allows Ndiaye the freedom to get into goal scoring positions.

I’m not sure what planet you’re on, I just shake my head, reading your posts

Overall it's probably best he goes, wouldn't want him as a starter, he would want at least a 2 year contract probably on at least 80k.

Likes of Armstrong & Alcaraz to maybe consider in that postion next season.

He's been good for us Doucoure, especially over these difficulty last 3/4 years, but he's getting on now, and his passing etc is pretty poor, we need to start to move on at the right time, we kept the likes of Distin & Howard too long
