2017/18 Ademola Lookman

For me a typical Lookman performance, carrying on from the U20 World Cup,and his pre season games, what you see is what you get in all his rawness. He continues to work hard and track back, continues to excite when he's got the ball, continues to give the ball away , continues to make poor decisions at times, continues to improve.

He just needs to realize that, sometimes, the simple play is what works. I can't fault the lad's energy; he's trying to make the most of every opportunity to show he belongs in or around the starting XI.

I'd hate us to over coach the lad, by that I mean always play the safe ball inside. He's got such natural skill & ability he has to be encouraged to also beat his man and attack a retreating back line even if it doesn't always come off.

The true test of how good he becomes will be in learning which option to take & when. Did well tonight, especially first half.

Should have come off for Lennon in the 2nd.

Excellent overall though.

Think had we another, he would have. Mirallas was absolutely dreadful though and I think Koeman didn't want too natural wide players on at the same time, opting to try and keep the ball a bit better.

I think he's so much better to watch than Lewin. Obvious flaws to his game but he needs to retain his confidence and keep going. There'll be times in the league this season when he has a full back in all kinds of trouble, especially towards the end of a game.

He really has pace, proper pace, not the Mirallas kind.
And good stamina, tbh. Doesn't stop, this lad. Doesn't mean he didn't get goosed last night second half but still...

Actually really happy with how he did last night - yeah, the odd mistake, but he's young and will learn. Crossing has to improve though, even though it doesn't help he's left footed (I think) and was playing on the right last night.

Enjoyed watching the lad in the first half, always looked as though something was going to happen when he got the ball.

I wanted him to receive the ball in the pen box a bit more, where he'd draw defenders trying to crowd him out as they'd be scared to put in a tackle.

Second half he faded and I'd have hooked him for Lennon, who still would have been an attacking threat (unlike Besic) but would have put in a shift helping the defence too.

Glad to see Besic get game time though.
