2017/18 Ademola Lookman

Great display last night. He's that wide player we need to get on the ball and drive at defenders. I'm still unsure whether he will be a top player, still young though and with the right team around him who knows.

One negative.... Makes stupid fouls constantly :yellow:

I am still unsure as to why he doesn't get more minutes.
Ok he is frustrating at times but name me one pacey winger who isn't?
As much as I like Lennon, I really do, Lookman is a more threatening player who will get us goals and stretch the opposition.

If he had lennons defensive qualities and discipline hed start every game. It will come with time but needs a run of games at some stage. Not sure if the derby is that game. Newcastle on Wednesday for sure

I shouted 'pass the ball, you greedy f*cker' at least 4 times last night.

I can accept the one with Vlasic as he was on a hatty, but the one at the beginning where Klassen had made a good run was poor. He's got that side of his game to develop for sure.

However he does look good on the left, cutting in. If he learnt how to pass (pienaar style), with a baines mk 2 overlapping it could be special.

as above, he's deffo got bags of talent, but he's a bit selfish at times, could have had a couple assists as well last night if he got his head up

He is a talent. His pace will always be dangerous, but he is far from a finished article and that's why he gets limited game time.
Defensively he is non-existent and leaves us exposed. The tackles he does make are usually rash and result in free kicks, putting the team under more pressure. Also, like most of the pacey wingers, his end product is very inconsistent. He doesn't look up for a pass, and often runs into trouble losing the ball - a carbon copy of Mirallas.

He needs to take some pointers from Lennon, around his defensive cover and general support play. Lennon may not be as quick as he was in his early days, but his all round game is far ahead of Lookman and offers decent defensive solidity and good link up play with the full back. It's no surprise we have looked better since he has come back into the team.

I think in the big high pressure games against the top half teams Lookman should be an impact sub depending on how the game is going, as we will need to be tight in defence against those teams. However against the weaker more toothless teams he should be given a few starts to develop.

Gave the best audition out of anyone to start against Newcastle barring Vlasic maybe. Would like to see more on the left wing from now on as that looks to be his best position.

There is always a risk with him that he'll lose the ball in a dangerous area but there's just as much chance he will do something special. I agree he's earned the right to play more.

Think you've hit the nail on the head - in a roundabout way - with those two bits in bold mate.

At the moment, he's playing wide.

But, I think if he is going to become a top player, he has to be played centrally.

He isn't lightning over a long distance, but he's extremely nippy and has a great turn of pace.

His skill and balance are superb, and as you say he likes to drive at defenders.

I think it was the Sevilla friendly in August when he came on and played as a 10, and he was superb. Changed the game.

Pace through the middle is so effective - especially against slow defences. Hope that he goes on to be played in that position at times this season.

Wait, you'd have him at 10 ?

Now it makes his signing look even more well planned by the management lol

Seriously though, when you hear about the RS having 4 amazing attacking players...Lookman, Dowell, Vlasic, DCL...of course they aren't of the same quality but who knows how good they can be.

Mainly because his defensive capabalities arent there yet, he gives away fouls and gets caught wrong sided, for now he is an impact sub if we need something IMO
I wouldnt start him at the moment and certainly not in the Derby, nowhere near ready.

I'd have him playing either flank Zat for now just as that's how he'd fit in the team (not saying he's ready to be a guaranteed starter - he isn't imo).

But to me he's neither a winger nor a 10. He's the classic 'inside forward'.

Really, we only play with inside forwards if we go 3 at the back, with a four across the middle and then the 'two' either side of the main striker (Ross excelled in an inside forward role last season).

I think though, towards the end of the season, supposing we stick with four at the back, then I'd like to see him played centrally even if it's just for spells in a game. His pace and trickery will be really useful in that role I think.

@Zatara I love the way you like any post directed negatively at me you horrible little scrote. I'm surprised you didn't drown in your own jizz last night with that result.

Would bet any money that these four are never on the pitch for us at the same time.
