Contributed to the joke identity of Scousers that was taken onto another level by scumbags like McGovern and Redmond and his Brookside scriptwriter lot.

Probably be a short thread but he's one of my favourite writers (especially GBH) and I see BBC 4 are showing Boys from the Blackstuff on Wednesday.
no offence mate and each to their own but i think you should broaden your horizons. i couldn`t even stomach a small amount of his one-dimensional characters and poor attempts at humour. the Boys from the Blackstuff was embarrassing at the time and very hyped up from what i can remember, it will have aged even worse...but hey-ho, Bleasdale took the kings shilling and will live happily-ever-after in his giant Dovecot mansion

Something he recommended to all one time:

It's a long time since I've seen Blackstuff, but in my memory it was bleak rather than funny. GBH is fresher in my mind - misunderstood and unrecognised, it is still a classic

When did he move from Allerton?

like i said, each to their own.

I love Alan Bleasedale. GBH was one of my favourite things ever. Look further than that and you have Having A Ball - set in a vasectomy clinic, Are You Lonesome Tonight ( all about Elvis. I went to see it on The Empire with Martin Shaw as Elvis) He always said that Elvis was far more the working class hero than John Lennon liked to portray himself as- given that John Lennon lived in the affluent and middle class area of Menlove Avenue.

I'll be watching Boys From The Blackstuff.
