Albums of the year

At number 7 on my list is The New Sound by ex Black Midi frontman Geordie Greep. People will either love this album, or hate it, and I think I can say with confidence that I'm in the minority that love it. This is the lead single and probably my favourite too.

Its time to remember there has been no good album since the White Album (the beetles), apparently

Charli xcx - Brat; brat brat brat 365 bumpin that brat
Los Camposinos - All Hell; like brat, but for the indie clubs at the time
Clairo - Charm; Sade style
Tyla - Tyla; god I love her
Tinashe - Quantum Baby; god i love her
Liodis - One Day; techno made simple again
Ghost Dubs - Damaged; it sounds like the end of the world
The Bug - Machines I-V; it sounds like the end of the world
MJ Lenderman - Manning Fireworks; guitar music before people moan that there is no rock anymore
Mabe Fratti Sentir - Que No Sabes; its in Spanish
Kloke and Tim Reaper - In Full Effect; Jungle/hardcore/breakbeat
Nala Sinephro - Endlessness; ambient jazz that my girlfriend plays about three times a day
The Cure -Song of a Lost World; a band worth checking out
Claire Rousay - Sentiment; emo vibe
Mount Eerie - Night Palace; different emo vibe
Cindy Lee - Diamond Jubilee; since its not on steaming - , two hours of music that sounds like a 1960's radio has never been turned off and it plays over and over until the speakers break. It's like listening to the parts of The Shining

i've probably missed loads but i'm bored now

Can you translate this into old?

Negative Spaces by Poppy is a belter.

I would say it's my album of the year but now that I think about it's probably the only album I have listened to!

At number 6 in my album of the year list is I got heaven by Mannequin P*ssy. My second favourite new find of the year and the band that got me into other female fronted punk bands like Sprints, Amyl and the Sniffers and The Lambrini Girls. Here's the title track taken from their fantastic Glasto set this year.

Into my top 5. I'm a little bit obsessed with this band and anybody who knows me will be surprised to see it so low. But the album is a bit over produced IMO and most of the songs are far better live, which is the case with my favourite track. So at number 5 on my list is Prelude to Ecstasy by The Last Dinner Party and this is Mirror (if you have an inkling to watch it FF to 34 mins.)

I've bought loads of LPs this year , think the most recent was produced in 1982.
Haha. I don't think that's quite the purpose of the thread Jazz.

Did you get the chance to listen to any of that Beth Gibbons album I suggested. There's something on the page prior to this if you fancy giving it a go. It'll only take 4 minutes out of your day mate.

Poppy - Negative Spaces
I've seen this on a few end of year lists and it's somebody I'm not familiar with, so I gave it a listen. I enjoyed it. Sort of a mix between 30 Seconds to Mars and Linkin Park. I loved the way she can transition from beautiful melody to throaty guttural screaming very akin to Chester Bennington. In fact I think she would have been a more suitable and less controversial successor to the great man (taking nothing away from Emily who I also like).

Poppy is awesome. Two of her songs "V.A.N" and "Time is Up" made it on to my most played tunes on Spotify this year

At number 4 on my list is Romance by Fontaines DC. It's been an amazing year for them and I think it's fair to say they've broken through as a stadium level act and future festival headliner. Not my favourite Indie album of the year, but this is definitely my song of the year, if not the decade.
