Fair to say I wasn't enthused on his signing...

Felt the same as I did with Tosun on signing him;

... I hoped maybe Brands saw something in his game that would come alive here, but he looked exactly the same as the Iwobi that I used to think would frustrate me to death if I was an Arsenal fan.

He was never a priority, the fee we paid at the time we did suggested he was low down the list.

Hopefully with Ancelotti, and based on January - the club have realised that often no transfer is better than any transfer.
It reeks of a homegrown alternative to Zaha. If we didn’t have so much foreign talent, I doubt we would have bothered with either.

Some weird shouts here.

He's played LM, RM and behind the striker and had a nasty little injury, all in his first season for the club. That club, by the way, has had three managers in his 6 months here.

Are people asking why he can't find consistency? The answer is directly linked to the above.

He's not a RM in a 442. But he's a very able, if not a little raw, left hand side playmaker.

It didn't work yesterday. But that's ok. He needs alot more time before any judgements are made.

I was sat with the Arsenal fans for the game and all the comments regarding Iwobi were positive. The fans were all aware that I was a blue and all seemed in agreement that Iwobi would come good for us, a few guys mentioned they would rather had sold Ozil and a few others before Iwobi.

When he was subbed he got a huge standing ovation.

He does worry me when I see him play, but these guys have watched him for years and all seem to think he will in time become a good player. Will it be with us or another club i don't know. But, at the moment I can see why Everton fans are a little worried with the signing.
I know that he isn't cut out for the tempo of the Premier League as it is now, and he's a shadow of the player he was in Spain, but some of the little things that Ozil did yesterday were brilliant. The way he took the ball in stride and his awareness/one-touch passing were a good ten levels above anyone else on the pitch.

He needs pre season under Ancelotti and a defined role in the team.

We dont know yet how he will also combine (if played on the left) with Digne + Gomes + Gbamin + Richarlison.

At the moment were only seeing him in fits and starts...in a topsy turvey season

Just on "Very able, left hand side playmaker".

Able for me is assists/goals from that position.

Not sure he has the composure in his game. Also a little lazy in recovery/off the ball for me - As a full back, I'd hate to have him in front of me.

Of course, every player benefits from time and stability.

Kind of similar to Keane's first season. Keane hasn't turned into a world beater or anything but he's a reasonable option now after looking like he might be back in the championship his first year here.

I think Keane should have been sold while he was getting in England squads.

Even last Jan if we could have brought in a centre back from europe and sold Keane id have taken the deal while his stock wasnt plummeting as it must be now.

I doubt there is a buyer at what we would have wanted. He's not stepping up a level, a sideways move is pointless for him, and sending him to a worse team wouldn't have netted much.

Anyway hope Iwobi can figure it out to some degree like he did. As I say, there's things to like about his game even when it isn't all being put together, and that was true of Keane as well.

The worst Marcel Brands signing period.
Zara is soo much better this guy is soo bad.
Iwobi is the next Bolasie will need to find loans to pay off his wages. What horrible business this is madness

There were some bad performances out there yesterday. DCL missing sitters, Sidibe unable to defend or cross a ball when attacking, Delph being Delph.......But Iwobi managed to out-stench them all. He has been garbage since (and before) we signed him. Hardly ever beats a man, can't pass and just generally does nowt. He makes Walcott look good. 'Nuff said!
