Just to add, Benitez for the first time since he arrived at Anfield was called on to fight on two fronts this season - in the league and CL. Their European form suffered accordingly as he didn't dare rotate his squad as much as he'd have wanted, and he ended up falling between two stools. They appear not to have the funds to go out on their usual spending spree this summer to strengthen the squad, so my bet would be that Benitez will draw the conclusion for next season that he's better set up to win the CL than having another futile tilt at the league.

19 years and counting. This is going to end in tears. (y)

They pushed United all the way Dan, which is about as good as they've done in years. If they had turned 3 of those draws into wins, they would be on top. A good season for them, even though they've failed to win anything.

If that's true then I can see a massive contradiction LOL.

Remember that fanboy article in The Guardian after our FA Cup win, after the draw at Anfield in the league? I remember, and it was mentioned on other forums too, stating that because we havent won anything, a good season for US is seeing the RS not win anything.

So, will it be regarded as a good season for the RS themselves that they havent won anything apart from push United? Because seeing them not winning anything is what our season is all about to be labelled a "good season" apparantly, is it the same for them?

Depends how you look at it, mate. If I was a RS I would think that the season has been good all things considered. Unlucky to lose to Chelsea in the CL, and second in the PL with an excellent GD. I would swap their season for ours anyday, even if we win the FA cup.

I think they have made progress Neb, you're right. They impressed me with their goalscoring feats this season, as I didn't think they had that firepower in them. And they were able to grind out some points from games they'd have crumbled in a season or so ago. That said, they were, I believe, given a free hand to take control of the league this season, given United's massive responsibilities in all competitions and the world club bull**** tournament they had to endure for commercial reasons (how many matches is that this season, something ridiculous, I know?); and Chelsea and Arsenal imploding should have served it up for them.

Liverpool supporters can talk all they want about being pleased with their progress and that they'd have taken this position at the start of the season, but in their heart of hearts they know they missed a boat that wont be coming back their way anytime soon.

I know. I was just pulling up moaing RS fans who were bitter that we beat them and were one of the many teams they drew against at home that eventually cost them the title.

The good thing is, we can say they've had a good season when they've won nothing. It shows you how little we expect from them these days. But then again, it's like that with the "smaller" clubs. :D

But wouldn't they of turned most of those draws into wins if the thug and the ladyboy started more than 12 games together, considering they are their 2 best players?

I wouldve won it if that cabsunt Dalglish , ( HOMOSEXUAL !!! ) hadnt been over me shoulder putting-the-mockers-on-me .

Oh , and I worked 3 nights a week at the fukn Pheonix Club !!!

FAX !!!

Rafael Benitez has hit out at the points system in the league, claiming it favours teams "who are not managed by fat waiters with racialist tendencies, managers who can't beat mediocre teams at home and wear pubic wigs on their faces are unfairly penalised." He went on to simper.

"You cannot imagine where we would be if you were awarded 2 points for a draw, or even 3, then we would win the league for sure, as no other team is as good at drawing at home to lower table sides as we are at Anfield"

"Next season will definately be our year, I am going to spend all of the close season working on being better, thinking up better excuses as to why we finish the seaon potless, and why the only silverware I get to see is when my temping agency sends me out to do Silver Service jobs at the Adelphi."

Rafael Benitez is 7and a half, and deluded.

That Sir is absolutely brilliant ****** wetting myself here:D

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez believes the amount of money that title rivals Manchester United have to spend is the key difference between the teams.

United need one point from their final two games to win the Premier League title, but Benitez does not think there is a level playing field.

"When you talk about United you're talking about a side spending big, big money on every player, every season.

"For me that is the main difference between the teams," said Benitez.
United brought in Dimitar Berbatov for £30.75m at the start of the season, while Serbian duo Zoran Tosic and Adem Ljajic arrived from

Partizan Belgrade for a reported combined fee of £16.3m.

Liverpool, meanwhile, signed left-back Andrea Dossena (£7m), Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri (£3.5m), striker David Ngog (1.5m), forward Robbie Keane (£20.3m) and Alberto Riera (£8m).

"You have seen that with regard to Chelsea before, spending big money," added Benitez.

"The advantage United have is that they have a big squad, in the last years they have spent money to improve that squad even more.

"They have spent big on top-class players, so they can make mistakes and they can change players. When we won there, they had Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Dimitar Berbatov on the bench.

"We cannot do something like that. We spend too much time worrying about whether Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres can play while they can play Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez, Berbatov or Wayne Rooney - it doesn't matter to them."

Benitez led Liverpool to victory in the Champions League in 2005 at the end of his first season in charge and then guided the Reds to FA Cup success in 2006.

They had a reputation as a team more suited to knockout competitions but the Spaniard believes this season's title challenge has changed that tag.

"We have done well. Clearly we are more consistent," he said.

"Once we were a team for the cups and the Champions League and now we can talk about being a team for the Premier League. That is positive for the future.

"We will now continue to do our job this season, and next season it will be different."

United will play Arsenal on Saturday when a point will be enough to wrap up the title before the Reds play at West Brom on Sunday in the penultimate round of Premier League games.

"This is a strange situation," said Benitez. "Having games so close to the end of the season on different days. It is something that should be improved in the future.

"For the last two weeks of the season, teams fighting for the title or to avoid relegation should have their matches all at the same time.

"The last two games should be the same for everyone, in Spain it is like this."

I love that man! Arise Sir Rafael!
