He was suffering from a hernia for a large part of it. Benitez didn’t bother playing football, so whoever the culprits were in central midfield for that particular incumbents tenure will have spent the game getting neck ache watching the ball fly over their heads or were charging around trying to get it back from the opposition.

Most of our central midfield options are really poor. Gomes is one of the worst midfielders in the league for example.
Hopefully we'll make some signings and we can get rid of a few of our midfielders.
I agree with you here. Gomes, if given time is ok and would be fine in serie A or Portugal and he definitely has ability he’s just not suited to English football, its barely debatable anymore after what he’s shown in the last couple of seasons, it’s just far too quick for him. Same to some degree as Allan, although he has shown he can be competent if others can do his running for him
First statement is complete nonsense.
Second statement doesn’t say it all, it’s like saying Rooney was crap because we finished 17th the season before he went to United, one player doesn’t make a team.
We were going to get into Europe in Ancelotti’s last season until Allan and Doucoure had injuries.
We can’t rely on him to play more than 25 games and be fit enough to play twice a week at times but he’s probably our best central midfielder before we sign anyone else so right now selling him would be mad if we don’t have younger fitter versions of him.

The echo saying we are looking for a number 6. Does this mean Allan is leaving?
The primary reasons we where so bad was a distinct lack of goal threat ( DCL being injured/unfit for a long time .
Plus the catastophic defending from set pieces and basic schoolboy error's in open play from our defenders.

Allan is not a 6 in any shape or form.
I wouldn’t think so, we need strength in depth.
I would also argue Allan is more of an 8, he likes to aggressively press the opposition and will often get wrong side when it doesn’t work which is why he’s better with a Delph type behind him. He’s also one of our only midfielders who can carry the ball forward and pick a pass so I think he’s a bit wasted in 6 or CDM or whatever.

If there's no interest it will be same as from last April I think. Allan will start v some of the top 6 home and away and then be sub option for last 15-20 minutes in games where Lampard wants more ball playing and on front foot.
Way it's shaping up he'll be starting most of the games in August as don't see club getting in a better DM than him before the season kicks off.
Thought a few Serie A clubs might've been in for him on loan deal unless the figures don't add up given his standing at Napoli.
