Do we need ‘his thing’ in the team? If Allan and Doucoure are playing then we need a midfielder whose thing is creating and scoring goals, and getting about the pitch.
Never in a million years would I call him a coward, that's ridiculous, brave on the ball, but too slow for this league that's all.

He was doing the creating in those early games. He was dictating the game with his distribution - while he wasn't supplying the through balls himself, he was getting it to the guys that did in the right spot, with the right weight on the pass.
The problem is that he doesn't get about the pitch, which becomes an issue when called upon to defend properly. He lacks the roll-up-the-sleeves portion of Xavi's game, as well as Iniesta's magic. This is OK when supported by wing backs and wingers that can supply the magic, as well as DMs that can cover for his defensive shortcomings.
He's not a bad player. He's just very limited. Gana and Allan/Doucoure let him show what he has. His problem is that he doesn't really fit well at any level in today's game - a richer team will buy a more expensive and complete player, and a team at our level or below has difficulty keeping all of the support he needs on the pitch for him to shine due to thin squads.

The injured set the lad back as he was playing well before his injury against spurs. Lads saying he doesn't score and Davies is better when was the last time tom Davies scored for Everton I'd say the city game many moons ago.
