Can’t afford to carry a player like Gomez. Scared to tackle and offers nothing against any team that presses. No doubt he’s great in training but even with his flowing locks and ruggedly handsome face he has no future here.

Doubt he'll play another minute for us, and nor should be to be honest. He's been a passenger for about 18 months and looks finished at this level. I don't think it will be difficult to offload him, thankfully, and see him most likely going back to Spain or joining a club in Italy. Probably get between 5-10m for him.

The purging of Gomes and his ilk make it easy to warm to Lampard. I can forgive a certain lack of tactical nous or inexperience in a manager if he can see through the frauds that permeate this club. I can also, to some extent, forgive a natural brainlessness in a player if I think they are committed (see Iwobi), but there's no excuse for tolerating bloodless passengers like Gomes.

If we stay up this season, the fans really do have to get a grip of themselves and remember that relief at survival does not equate to peace and love to all men - including the imposters who put us through the anxiety and humiliation of this campaign. A vicious, but justified, purge will make a manager of Lampard yet.

That would all depend on how much he wants to play. I see nothing in his demeanour to suggest that he would be willing to take the huge pay cut, which would be necessary in order to find a buyer for him.

I think it is far more likely that he is an extremely well paid bench warmer until he is out of contract at the end of next summer. Next year's Tosun if you like.
