I like him , puts the effort in and on the wing ,does a decent job he hasn't been on his own with a dip in form.
Going forward he is a decent player to have in the squad and we haven't got to .any of those.
Will do till we can bring in some quality.
He’s not been played on the wing recently and it just doesn’t suit him

Proper pro, but I do think he's the one should be dropped when DCL is back. I also would prefer to play a midfield 3 instead of him quite a lot of the time.

But he's the sort of lad who will come back into the team when you need them and have the attitude spot on. He'd go to somewhere like Hull in the cup and be 100% in the right mindset. Not sure we can say for that for many others in our team.

It’s been in part due to Benitez’s reluctance to play 433, and sticking to 4411

Add in that yesterday due to Digne being dropped, Townsend was probably in for set-pieces alone

I think if the Iwobi chance, falls to Townsend he buries it.

I think its the managers persistence to send in endless dead crosses is why he continues to play him mate - for his delivery. Problem is Richarlison isnt a target man, Rondon is still celebrating the millennium in terms of speed - it may be useful when DCL is back but its a dead tactic at the moment. We have scored three goals in our last 6 games, three have come directly from Gray running centrally and coming inside. The endless crossing isn't working, its a dead tactic at the moment and that on the manager.

But Townsend lately has spent a lot of time playing central so we aren’t even getting that crossing out of him. You’re bang on too, the endless crossing is ridiculous if it’s the only tactic.

I said this last night, bar the set-piece goal (which was one good delivery from Townsend), none of the goals that we scored last night were anything to do with crosses, but all to do with having a front three of players and an advanced midfielder to supply them
