Yeah its a good read that, one of my mates in Leeds reads all them type of books, from firms all over and he reckons Scally was one of the best Only seen him once at a game for a long time, funilly enough down at Millwall haha.

Thing is with his type they didn't pick on regular match goers who just wanted to go see a game of football, unlike some of the whoppers who go to away games these days and give it the big one with there mates after a line of beak.

I heard he did some lecturing to students about the hooligan culture, not sure if thats true

Have read the book like I've read many other hooligan related books. Enjoyed it and much more realistic like some of the others. The likes of Chelsea and Cardiff seemingly never took a beating in their life.

I met him before Benfica away, pleasant enough chap, who's no doubt grown up since them days.
I don't understand the seemingly glorification of the '70's and '80's hooligan's, but that's fair enough, we all make stupid mistakes as youths, yet I question this quote from the article:

These days, the young lads involved in the scene deserve some credit for trying to salvage the culture.

I disagree. That's a terrible thing to come out with, whether he's left those days behind or not. However the end of the article is fair enough, if this is indeed the message he seeks to send out:

I say to the young lads at it today: Be careful; give it up. It's just not worth the grief in this day and age. Is almost certain jail worth it? For five minutes of madness—as that is all you get now? Hand on heart, I'd say it's not.

Good soundtrack on that film thats about it, ps it was kids agaist men at a lot of places as the scally ellement at the start of that scene were mostly in there teens v grown up hooligans in places like leeds

I'd be tucked up in a huge coat if it was me lol

Yeah, I can understand that. However, a firm of kids crossing a firm of Gorilla build adults (believe it was Wolves) and totally destroying them, doesn't really look very convincing

I think Wrexham v Chester last season must have been the first coach combi ever in British football, right? By combi I mean you have to buy a coach ticket in order to get a ticket for the match. No free travel by car or train allowed. Quite the norm over here, but never before heard about that in the UK.

yeah some horrendous accents on display in that, even if they are supposedly wools

the book it's based on is a fkn cracker though, the film does it no justice whatsoever, although the soundtrack was great in its defense

EDIT: just seen @edge has already mentioned this

Burnley v Blackburn been doing it a while, there was a case of a fella who was a Burnley fan but lived in same st as ewood Park, early Kick off so he had to be in Burnley by about 7:30 to get the bus, then go back on it after the game as well, he reckoned he was out of the house for about 7 hours for a game 2 mins walk from his home.

Sounds oh so familiair. Probably at least 70% of all football matches in the Dutch 2 highest divisions will be combi ones. Ridiculous rule imo, as nowadays 99% of the football related incidents seem to happen in the week/days before the match with pre-arranged fights.

yeah mate, it's as if the battle at Beverwijk Zwarte Market wouldn't have happened if only they'd sold a combi.
