Gordon is the type of player that needs to train with the 1st team but the u23 team needs to be built around. Personally I think he looks like a number 10 so would like to see us put an out and out striker in the team like Simms. The problem being that we don't really have any wingers in our u23 at the minute we have Charlsey who is more of an attacking midfielder, Evans who like Gordon is suited to the number 10 role and Mampala whose best game for u18s were as a striker. Its a shame in a way that we didn't keep Bowler and Broadhead as that would have been a decent attack.
Yep, training with the 1st team playing with the U23s is the near term plan and I’m happy with that . With his pace and skill , Gordon offers the U23s something different than last years Hornby/Sambou as strikers , Broadhead/Bowler out wide. Without them four Unsworth needs to change his plans and adapt , and players like Iversen, Carroll and Adeniran can supply the through balls for Gordon .

I would also be giving Gibson 45 minutes here and there in u23. These 2 appear to be our best hopes. I understand Gibson is needed as back up but he hasnt kicked a ball in anger at any level since the season started. Gordon has hit the ground running and will hopefully be on the bench for 1st team towards end of the season if he keeps his progress up.

He played the 1st game of the season then I assume picked up an injury but appears to be back fit now

get him in the team
We play Wednesday the 24th and the next game in the Leasing.com Trophy for the u21s is October 1st. No reason he couldn't be on the bench for the first and then start the second. He needs to play against real teams. The u23s isn't going to be helpful when Unsworth is playing pragmatic hoofball in a weird attempt to get results in a competition meant to be developmental.

in the small parts I've seen its clear the kids got ability

be a shame if he don't take a risk on this one and end up loaning him out

None of them will make it.
It doesn't mean the last 5 games weren't a good time to find out. Especially with Davies. Gomes getting suspended for more or less meaningless games was a great opportunity and we got Schneiderlin instead for all of them.

And I know we got 4 million more for finishing 8th instead of 10th that's not more valuable than seeing if young players can make it.

In my view both Gordon and Gibson have the potential to make it but given the season is still live it would be detrimental to both to put in the team. Maybe put them both on the bench against Sheffield Wednesday and if the game situation allows bring them on. Neither is ready for the unreasonable amount of expectation that will be placed on their shoulders. If by the end of the season they are still knocking on the door then perhaps they should be gently phased in.
