There were people saying we should be asking for 30m after we had already rejected 40m. The mind boggles. I'm glad they don't negotiate deals for the club.
Some selective memory there. You're referring to me, and I indicated I'd have accepted 30m, never mind 40m. Goes without saying that nobody would negotiate a bid down like a downwards auction!

Financially, it makes sense to sell him, no doubt that a £60m offer is a great one.

BUT

I think for a team that will be scrapping this season, that standing our ground, sends a great message to the rest of the league and to AG's teammates. He is clearly professional enough, as he is so obviously displaying currently, to put his head down and to keep performing even if his preference is to leave.

I hope we put a stake in the ground, hold firm and keep him. His value at worst remains the same at the end of the season, and it gives us the opportunity to benefit from his play and prepare a proper replacement.

Frank clearly wants that to happen.

Get the feeling Chelsea will up their offer in the last day or two in the window, maybe even to our demands, but by that point it’ll be too late to sell to guarantee we can bring in reinforcements

I would have taken an offer of around £50 million and rebuilt the team.

However unless Chelsea now offer a player that we really want and we also have a replacement lined up and ready to go it is now too late and too much of a risk.

However , if we are now spent up will yesterday's team but with the addition of Maupay and perhaps Gana be enough to keep us up ?

Massive gamble.
