The flip side to that is the people who raved about him at Palace, how amazing he was and much improved he was. He scored the definition of a tap in, and before that, i thought he was awful save for 1 decent shot in the 1st half. I would've taken him off at half time, and like i say, before his goal, he looked dead on his feet. The goal livened him up a bit, but he still didnt do much after. I heard several people saying how he laced their fullback every time he got the ball, and i honestly thought i mustve been watching a different game, because the ball seemed to stop whenever it arrived at his feet and the inevitable square pass back down the line or inside to Iwobi was all he seemed capable of. He tried 1, maybe 2 crosses, and they were atrocious.
And yet, his tap in was enough for his fan boys to start banging the drum about what a player he is going to be again, lauding him as a super talent.
He literally does next to nothing every week, and his positional sense is baffling. Ill give him credit for scoring the goals he has this season, because he has already equalled his output from last season (ill reluctantly give him the 2 massive deflections, but im not giving him Richarlsons goal that hit him accidentally). But he still only has, i believe, 3 assists in 60 1st team games, which is mental. Iwobi has 5 this season alone.
The most impressive thing about Gordon for me is his ego, follwed closely by his ability to pull the wool over peoples eyes.
He has potential to be a good player the same way that Ross Barkley has the potential to turn his career round and become 1 of the best players in the league. He has a club, he trains every week, and he seems to have unlimited opportunities to spurn, so while those things remain the same, yes, i guess you could say he has potential to become a great player.
Him and Rondon should keep telling themselves that.
