I am amazed at his inability to cross a ball, surely they practice this day in day out. When the ball leaves his foot you would have absolutely no idea where it going to end up..

….training & match day are totally different scenario. When Gordon first came into the side he was immediately given responsibility for taking set pieces, that can only be because he was very effective in training yet he found it very difficult to deliver. If you watched at Youth level he was a clean striker of the ball.

The heart rate is down in training, the pressure isn’t intense. He’s a bit headless in PL, he lacks composure when opportunity comes to deliver or shoot.

Yeah I'm not sure there was any real need for that it's a high pressure role wearing the '10' shirt for any team, sort of a stigma with it.
Guessing it was a way for the club to tell him how much faith they have in him. It worked out with Dom, his game picked up when he became our nr 9, but seems to have backfired with Gordon.
Fingers crossed its just a speedbump and he continues to develop and help the team.

You were saying he was one of the top talents in Europe the other week? So is he or is he not? Because if he is then I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect him to perform at a very very basic level in the Premier League (no one is demanding he scores 18 and assists 20)

My comments were from the summer mate, specifically those comments were made in May.

I put a strong caveat in, that I had no idea if he would continue to develop and improve. At present hes probably not kicking on as someone might expect, but I'll be happy to give an evaluation at the end of the season.

As I said, I wouldn't really want to comment on his attitude because I have no idea, but I can see why the questions are there. The (on field) disciplinary issues, the clear drop in work rate, the ear cupping celebration etc are all things that raise questions. I said a while back I wasn't really happy with his comments when with the under 21s - the opportunity was there to say 'I just want to get my head down and play well for Everton' but he chose to say 'I really want to go to the World Cup' instead. It's not a big thing but those little things will affect the way you're perceived.

Yes that fair. Like you, I dont know about his attitude. I try to avoid such conclusions on most players. I've always felt it's an easy get out for me, people can criticise attitude as it's an easy conclusion.

In some ways it's good he makes those comments, but you have to be prepared to back it up, and if you dont you have to accept there will be some blowback.

Overall, the club, manager and player have not handled the situation very well for me. They should have just said hes a young player, focussing on improving, which is what he is.

I agree they should be, but I get the feeling he himself thinks he’s a lot better than what he is at the moment.

There is still time for him of course, but I’m not sure his hearts in it to do at Everton.
