JammyP this the census record I have, for Meadow St, states its in the Scotland Ward, which I am guessing is near Everton. Strange that it doesnt show up on the historic maps. Got a pile of relatives by the look of it in Liscard too, as a few seemed to jump over the water!

Cheers for that, intersting, so the Scotland district had an Irish Nationalist as its MP for an inordinate amount of time, with, judging by my records (ie my family) half the welsh population in it as well. It seems like it was a proper area of mixed nationals. Just seen the map of where a family on my side was based, 100m from the dock, 100m from train goods station, 100m from the canals. Don't think anyone was getting a peaceful nights sleep around then!! But then again probably working 18hr days!

here is the daddy of all UK historical map sites: https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore

also with regards to the censuses / ancestry.co.uk and so on, if anyone lives near or visits London please be aware that all of that stuff is at Kew and is free - its a great way to spend a morning or afternoon and the only thing you need to pay for is the photocopier

May be historic maps is not perfect. Sometimes street names change.

Another interesting site is https://www.oldmapsonline.org/ - the only Meadow Street they have is New Brighton too. It's a puzzle. Sometimes it may be something a little but different - misread from handwriting?

One of the biggest problems on old records is poor or archaic hand writing and names and places being poorly spelt or spelt phonetically
