Unashamedly building on the "were you any good at football " thread.

My uncle was on Chelsea's books prior to the war but whilst he survived was unable to play properly again. I remember in the late 60s ( he would have been 50 or so then ) going down the park for a kick about with him. He couldn't move but boy what a left foot he had. He could ping a ball and his crossing was incredible. All the local lads were in awe.

Mrs Js dad was on the books at Everton but sadly never made a first team appearance.

Two nephews were playing apprentices at Accrington. Neither was kept on. They were offered playing contracts with non-league sides but both opted to go on to university courses and both (now in their 30s) have had a few good and interesting appointments in football and are currently (apparently quite happy and doing well?) in coaching roles with League 2 sides ...

My niece played in goal for the RS youth team years ago before they went professional. She binned them off to go to Uni.

Not exactly relevant but Tommy Wright's nephew was in my Sunday League team when I lived in London. A brilliant centre half and hard as nails. He looked just like Tommy but with a cockney accent.

My cousin up until the age of 17 had been decent enough to be at Blackburn but but because of distance a few times a week and my aunt having to work so no way of getting there he had to jib it, a few of his mates got offered a chance to go the darkside for a 6week trial or something, he went after trial period over they let him go kept two of the group and apparently one of them was paying to go.I might be wrong that’s what I can vaguely recall, then tranmere and ended up studying at Southport college and playing in the team there for two years, he now teaches and has played Sunday league stuff into his thirties still decent but hasn’t the time to
