Are things really that bad?

With McNeil and Dom back and fit + Beto through the door things have improved.

It was telling that Brentford didn't manage so well with their injuries against us - Thomas Frank has more credit in the bank than Dyche - but if that had been at Goodison and Dyche had lost 1-3 I doubt the fans would have been as understanding.

Get Harrison back and the starting 11 seems PL worthy.

Then it comes down to injuries...CB, GK would cause us the most problems.

And injury to CB now is terrifying.

I feel better after a win for sure, but I'm not going to jump the gun and say there is nothing to worry about.
We were good today and scored some nice goals, but it could be like Brighton last year where we just got everything clicking for one match.
I need to see a couple more performances similar to this before I'll stop worrying about our season.

Depends what you mean when you say "that bad" 🤷‍♂️ We are probably exactly where we should be at this moment i.e. 15th
Inevitably, performances over the last few seasons have led to the pessimism that currently pervades our support.
We are not 'as' bad as some are saying, but we certainly won't be competing for titles any time soon.
Personally, I think we're good enough to finish comfortably mid table.
Relatively speaking, that remains poor for a club of our standing, but it would at least show signs of an improvement from the nail biting of the last few seasons. (and would help my blood pressure no end.)

I think the worrying thing was that even though we were creating chances, we've been absolutely terrible in front of goal for over a year so it's hard to call it a blip. On paper we have added Beto, Danjuma and Harrison in place of Maupay, Gray and Iwobi so hopefully over the season that will yield more goals. The other annoying thing is that once again, we've gone into the start of the season woefully unprepared and thrown away at least 6 points. Saying that, Saturday was a much better performance so hopefully that's a sign of things to come but until we get some more points on the board I'm still gonna be concerned.

Fulham game we got what we deserved. We were absolutely awful, yes we created few big chances but we were crap. Chasing shadows most of the game against a poor Fulham team, at home.

Fine margins in the Premier league. I don't think there are many truly stellar teams in it. Those who are really show us up (see Arsenal). I think we've got a lot of players prone to inconsistentcy and making game losing errors. Those are the margins. Brentford were hideous and we took advantage. Another day our errors would have cost us, or Brentford would have been more 'at it'.

I'm not going to complain though, the win was needed.
Very true. Most of our decent results over the last 12 months have been a Pickford save or an opposition forwards miss away from being a bad result. But the same is true for some of the losses notably Fulham and Wolves.

Apparently we're in the top 5 for xG and big chances created and have also in the top 5 for fewest shots conceded per game.

Obviously the only top team we've faced in that time is Arsenal, so you'd be surprised if that carried on all season, but enough there to suggest we are performing better than our points total suggests.

No guarantees of course, just because we SHOULD have beat Fulham/Wolves/Shef U doesn't mean that we WILL beat Luton and Bournemouth. But hopefully we can use the Brentford performance as a springboard and start getting points on the board.
